Three Things We Now Want In Our Future Home After Visiting The SEH BAC Showroom

Me at SEH BAC

AD - This is a collaborative post but all thoughts and opinions are my own

When we get our house in 2020 we’re planning on doing quite a lot of work to it. We know we won’t be able to afford to do everything in one go, but it’s going to be our forever home. So over time, we’re going to be replacing and redoing most parts to suit us and hopefully last a long time. I love looking around showrooms and anywhere that can give us inspiration and ideas of what we want. And an idea of how much they can cost!

SEH BAC has been around for 45 years providing home improvements in the South East. They do windows, doors and conservatories and they’ve just opened a new showroom in Chesham. Chesham is only about 20 minutes away from me in Watford so was a great location to get some ideas from. Other showrooms can be found in Abingdon, Bedford, Capel St. Mary, Chelmsford, Warlingham, Colchester, Great Amwell, Ipswich, Marks Tey and Woburn Sands. So there’s plenty of choices for you to visit.

We actually headed to the showroom on opening day and had a look over the doors and windows that they had on display. And we managed to have a chat with one of the designers around bi-fold doors. After our look around we’ve got three things which are now on our future home wishlist.

Me and some sash windows from SEH BAC

Sash Windows

I’d never really thought about different types of windows before heading to SEH BAC. But we saw some beautiful sash windows and I realise how practical they would be in some rooms. One thing I hate is pushing windows open when it’s warm, but then it goes windy and I have to reach out to close them. Having sash windows means it’s just pushing them up or down. So no real leg work.

The ones we saw could be moved up and down meaning you could create a gap at the top and bottom to have proper air circulation. As long as our new property has double glazing, I don’t think this would be the first thing we’d do. But I’d love to have a selection of windows like this, perhaps just the front or back. The great thing is you can customise the look of them so these are white, but you can go for wood which is what we’d choose. You can even have one colour on the outside and a different one on the inside.

Windows with blinds inside

Windows with integrated blinds

These blinds literally blew my mind when I saw them as I had no idea they were even a thing. You can get blinds which are inbuilt in windows or doors and are open and closed by bars/ rails on the side. I do really like the idea of blinds in generally as they look sleeker than curtains. But the one thing which used to put me off was how much cleaning you’d need to do as they can get quite dusty.

Having blinds inside means there is no cleaning as they’re not exposed. They don’t sit out from the window, so you don’t need to worry about space or them knocking/ blowing around. And just look how smart they look. These would be great for spaces like kitchens and bathrooms where you want to create privacy but don’t necessarily want curtains or nets.

aluminium doors at SEH BAC

Bi-fold doors

We’d already floated the idea of bi-fold doors around in our mind and seeing them up close cemented that. We’re hoping that whatever property we go for we will open out the whole back of the property into a large kitchen/ diner. And then we’d love bi-fold doors which take up a lot of the back wall of the house. As bi-folds folds back into each other it would mean we can properly open out the back of the house bringing in loads of light and hopefully sunshine.

The doors we saw where a beautiful grey colour and made from aluminium which were really light to move around. Plastic might be cheaper and just as long lasting, but aluminium would be less cleaning and maintenance. Plus, if we did get sunshine on the back of the house they wouldn’t warp over time like plastic. While it might be more expensive it’s going to be a house that we’ll be in forever so worth the cost.

If you’re looking for windows, doors or a conservatory and live in the South East area check out SEH BAC. For more information visit their website here.

I really wish we had the room for a conservatory as you basically create an extra room on your property which must be great should you ever sell. We need new windows for our house but we’re waiting for the warmer weather.

This looks like an interesting showroom to visit, I have to admit I would love to get a new door or two in the home, our front one in particular could do with sprusing up.
