In a world where most of us are side hustling somehow making money from the comfort of your own home can seem appealing. Where I’m saving like crazy (or trying to), I’m doing anything I can to make more money. You may be able to pick up small bits here and there, but they all add up. Especially if you’re saving with a big goal in mind. There are loads of ways you can make money online but here are some of my favourites.
This is a pretty simple one but something I have done a lot of. Selling unwanted items online. I’ve mainly sold furniture and tech through Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree. And then clothes and accessories through eBay. As I find this is the best way as most of the larger items need collecting so getting those local is better. iPad-Recycle is another recycling site worth mentioning for selling iPads and Apple accessories online.
When we moved out of my flat we had a bunch of furniture that we didn’t want to take with us so we sold them online. When using eBay the biggest additional expense (other than the eBay fees) can be postage and packaging. If you want to send a parcel it’s worth going online and comparing delivery prices. Especially if it’s larger or heavier items as you might find a better price online.
I’ve only done a little bit of market research but the one I did do was a great little earner. Some market research needs to be done face to face, so you need to weigh up if the payout is worth it. But a lot of market research can be done online where you just answer questions and fill in questionnaires. Market research is usually done by brands and companies to find out peoples perceptions of things, or their buying power.
The market research I did was specifically for people with websites and looked at different ad agencies looking for feedback. But I’ve also done ones about what you look for when buying a new home appliance. Or your process when buying new insurance. The main site I use is People for Research but You Gov and Take Part in Research are also good ones. With People for Research, you can do online, telephone and face to face surveys and there’s always a cash incentive. With YouGov, you earn points for surveys you complete which tot up and can be transferred into money. And Take Part in Research offers face to face, telephone and online surveys and you can earn money or Amazon Vouchers for your time.
Of course, the biggest way I make money online is through this blog. It didn’t start of that way and it wasn’t something I even thought about when I first started writing. It took a few years of building up my following, curating my site and working hard, but now I make some money online this way.
If you’re a blogger there a whole range of ways you can make money and which you choose will be totally unique to your blog. For example, affiliate marketing can work really well if you have a highly engaged following who will buy things you recommend. Ads might be best for you if you have a high amount of traffic as you can make money when people click on the ads. Instagram ads might work best for you if you have a good following and an engaged audience.
For me, I make my money through PR partnerships and SEO sponsored posts. A brand will either pay me to include a link to their site in a post, or to talk about their brand or product. With this, I only choose to work with brands which are a good fit for my site. You should see the amount of work I turn down.
There are loads of other ways you can make money online such as Match Betting and completing offers on sites such as OhMyDosh and 20Cogs. But I don’t have enough experience of these to talk about them properly. I am going to be trying to find some time to do more of them so if I do expect a post soon.
As you can see there are loads of ways you can make money online and everything you do adds up.
