Anyone who has read my blog before will probably know that I’m back living with my parents. We moved back at the start of February for roughly a year to do some more savings. We are staying in the loft bedroom which is great size-wise, and it means we have our own en-suite. But it does mean that it gets pretty bright and pretty warm.
When we first moved in there were curtains in there, but they weren’t blackout so didn’t keep out most of the sunshine. And they were quite thick despite not being blackout, so it made the room quite hot. When Make my blinds got in touch and offered to send me some blinds it couldn’t have come at a better moment.
We started off by choosing our blinds and working out the fit/ style. This was the toughest part as we didn’t know what colour to pick. Especially as we know that my parents are going to re-decorate next year when we move out. So we decided to go for the Burst Obsession Vertical Blinds* in a light-mid grey colour. I’m a huge fan of grey anyway as it’s one of those colours which will go with everything.
We opted for vertical blinds as the window in the loft bedroom is quite wide, but not overly high. So by getting vertical ones we could open up the space quite a lot when we do want the sun to stream in. Which is lovely at this time of the year. There are so many options to choose from for the blinds to best suit your space. For example, you can get split, right or left blinds depending on where you want them to open to. As I said our window is quite wide so split made the best sense for us. But if you had a narrower window you could choose to have them just go to one side.
Then there’s choosing which side the controls are which wasn’t something I’d even thought about. Thankfully we had a choice, as the right side would have been behind our TV and in quite an awkward spot. So we chose the left side and it’s so easy to get to open and close the blinds. You can also chose for the blinds to sit in the recess of the window (within the ledge) or have them over the top. We chose the latter as it would mean all the light could be blocked.
After we made our choices the blinds arrived so quickly. Considering they’re sent made to measure I was so impressed. I can’t take any credit with putting up the blinds but Luke did it so quickly I don’t think they were tricky. The first time I saw them on our window I was amazed at how much difference it made to the room. Not only do they look sleeker and smarter than curtains ever did. But they work so much better in our space.
Now when we have them completely closed it really shuts off the light and means we can watch a movie far easier. But we can open the slats slightly if we want to get in some light without opening the whole thing. For me, this is nice as it means in the morning you can see some light without being woken up. I’d have never thought that something as simple as blinds could make such a difference in our bedroom. But it really has.
I love gray as well, it goes with so many other colors. Blinds can be really helpful in blocking out the light, moreso than a typical curtain.
These look fab! We currently have curtains but I really want to get blinds as they look so much cleaner/modern and curtains let in so much light unless you have the thick bulky ones! I love the colour you choose too! x
Yeah it’s nice as you can change the angle and let a little light in, or make it completely dark x
They look great. Im a huge fan of blinds I have them in every room. I have curtains in my bedroom too as need it a bit darker than with blinds alone
That’s a great idea to have both if you need proper darkness x
It’s great how much difference these have made. I think you really picked the perfect colour, which goes with everything and love how smart they look too.
I love vertical blinds, they really do give you the ultimate in light control with how much you let in. Mich x
I would love blinds in my bedroom – unfortunately we are in a rental property so I can’t – hopefully when we move though.
That’s a shame that you can’t change them in your place, but it does make a huge difference x
I like those kind of blinds. We had them in our basement when we lived up north and they did make a big difference.
Vertical blinds offer great flexibilty when it comes to how much light you want to let as well as the direction of that light
They look great! We’ve got blinds on every window in our home and I absolutely love them. They make such a difference don’t they! x
