Technology Wish List For Our Future Home

AD - This is a collaborative post but all thoughts and opinions are my own

For us 2020 is the year we’re hoping to buy our first proper house. After owning a 2-bedroom flat it served me well but a home is on another scale. I count us very lucky that we’re in a position to be able to buy, and I can’t wait to renovate and get it how we want it.

I’ve done a lot of homestyle wish lists for what I want when we move. But one area I’ve not talked about much is technology. We’re very much fans of smart home appliances, and having as much tech as we can to make our lives easier. In the flat there was only so much we could do so I’m excited to have the option to do more in the house. Here are some of the bits of technology we want when we move.

Virtual Personal Assistants

Virtual Personal Assistants aka Alexa is something we’ve already used quite a bit. But when we have a house we’d like to have them in all the main rooms (kitchen, living room, bedroom, man cave and office) and have them all connected. This way we can use them to communicate, for example, I can let Luke know when dinner is ready. Or if we play music we can have it across a variety of rooms.

This will be one of the easiest things to do as we already have 2 Alexa’s and you can get these pretty cheap. Especially around Prime Deal Days.

Smart TV’s

We have 2 TVs from the flat which we had in the living room and bedroom. But when we move I know we’ll need a lot more as Luke will want one in the man cave. I’ll probably have one in office, and there’s likely to be one in the kitchen too. I’ll be on the lookout for TV deals when we come to buy them as I want them to all be smart TVs. We may need TV wall mount installation service if we end up getting a TV which we can’t mount.

Ring or Nest Doorbell

I love the idea of having a smart doorbell as a security feature, but also because we’re not in that much. When the doorbells ring it notifies you on your phone so you can answer and talk via the app. This would be so useful as Luke can quite easily pick up his phone at work. And it means that if we have deliveries we can tell them which safe place to put the items in.

We’d love to create some sort of secure area that packages can be put into and accessed via a code. But this is something we’ll need to look into more when we move.

Hive Thermostat

As most things can be made smart now we want to have a hive thermostat. It can be connected to most existing boilers or central heating systems and you can control it via an app. It means we can change the heating times when we’re out if it’s cold.

As we’re hoping to have air conditioning in the home as well we’ll be able to hook this up as well. So we can make sure our house is always at the right temperature.

I’ve not tried an Alexa or Google type of technology yet but am considering getting one. I’d love to get air conditioning some time too.. that would be ace!

I have a Ring doorbell and love it, I also love my Arlo cameras. I’d like a smart tv but it’s just not in my budget at present.

The door bell sounds like a great idea as you said it’s easier to manage deliveries when you are out . I would love to have gadgets like these in my home too.

We have just got a Ring Doorbell and it is honestly the best thing, I don’t know why we didn’t get one sooner!

I’ve never really felt the need for Alexa, however, I’d love a smart doorbell so I can see who is at the door etc.

I love our smart TV – makes watching streamed stuff so much easier. I’m still not on board with Alexa though – there’s an episode of South Park in the latest season about Amazon that depicted my fears! Haha!

I want the full Alexa set up too – I love the thought of just telling the lights to turn on and off.

We used to have that in our flat with the lights in the living room/ kitchen and it made it so much easier when you walked in with arms full of shopping etc x
