AD - This is a collaborative post but all thoughts and opinions are my own

My travel wish list is always growing. Every time I look at people’s Instagram images, or speak to someone after they’ve been away my list grows. Asia is one part of the whole I’ve yet to explore. I didn’t do the typical Asian gap year that a lot of people I know did. And a trip to Bali a few years back fell through for me so it’s still on the cards.

Just look at some of the villas you can get in Galle

One of the first things I’ll look at when booking a location is the accomodation. Especially somewhere where you may want to do a mixture of exploring and relaxing. Some of the villas you can stay in in Galle are stunning and such great value for money. For example the Royal Indigo Villa which is the image featured above sleeps up to 10 people and starts from as little as £248 a night. Between 10 people that price is incredible! You get your own pool (essential for the hot days) and the master bedroom has direct access to the pool from their room. There’s also staff on hand during your whole stay. This is another level of luxury for me and would be such a great base for your trip.

Villa Finder have accomodation across a variety of countries and customer happiness is their top priority. So making sure only the best villa’s which are properly maintained are included on the website. Throughout the stay the concierfe team can help arrange anything from groceries, tours, activities or special requests like cooking performances or private yoga teachers. So you know you’re guaranteed a good time.

Galle fort is a world heritage and UNESCO site

Galle is one of the best examples across the world of a fortified city. The walled part of the city has stood since the 16th century started by the Portuguese. It was then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century.

The 90 hectare area (which is UNESCO listed) is essentilly a fortified walled town within the city. And the fort itself is a world heritage site which is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers. As you’re walking around tbhe city you’ll be able to see recently restored archiecture after the area was hit by a tsunami in 2004. And then much older parts dated with keystones.

It’s warm all year round so is great for some winter sun

Galle has a tropical rainforest climate, meaning it can be quite wet throughout the year. There’s no real dry season but January and February see noticeably less rainfall. Due to this the area stays around 26-30 degrees all year round, meaning that winter sun is easy to catch.

The lowest temperature ever recorded for Galle is 17.1 degrees which I can’t even begin to imagine. In the UK that temperature is pretty balmy and comfortable. But the country isn’t far from the equator so there isn’t much variance during the year.

The beaches look stunning

I never used to be a beach person, usually prefering the non sandy option of a pool. But as I’ve grown older I’ve realised how nice that can be. And Galle’s coastline looks stunning. You can try your hand at surfing there which is on my bucket list so something I’d need to try. You can also go killer whale watching which sounds pretty awesome.

If it’s more the peaceful palm tree lined beaches with turquoise waters and rose-tinted sunsets then the beach town of Unawatuna is a must visit. Just a quick bus or rickshaw ride from Galle Fort.

Have you ever visited Sri Lanka or is it on your wish list?
