Gift Guide For Home Lovers – Christmas 2019

By the time this post goes up, it will be less than 2 months until Christmas. This scares me as I have no idea where the year has gone. But it also excites me a lot like Christmas (and the lead up) is my favourite time of the year.

I’ve always been a lover of homeware items, even when I loved at home and just had my bedroom to decorate. As me and Luke are going to be buying a house next year I do think that I’ll be asking for some homey bits for Christmas. Here are some ideas of home-related presents that would be great to give (or receive).

For someone who likes a good tipple

As soon as I saw these Chelsea gold leaf champagne flutes* (£50) from Sara Miller London and Portmeirion I fell in love. They are so elegant with their long shape and unbelievably gorgeous with the gold leaf pattern. They are delicate in design but they don’t feel too delicate to hold. And the gold leaf on them is actually 22-carat gold which is incredible.

This set comes with 4 glasses which is such a good amount meaning they’ll work so well when the parents come round to visit when we’re in our new house. I can’t wait to have dinner parties and set up a table for dinner. And these will take pride of place on the table. I’ve already seen my mum eyeing these up so I may have to grab another set.

For someone who loves a fun drink

When I think of my childhood going to our local bowling alley I always remember getting a slush puppy after the game. It was a right of passage and a bit of a tradition. Now you can recreate that feeling at home with your own Slush Puppy Machine* (£49.95). And this is a proper branded set for full-on nostalgia so you can create your own slushie drink whenever you want. The machine itself feels really good quality and secure so it’s not just a novelty item you’ll use once and that’s it.

This arrived with me during the big heat wave in August time I believe and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The drinks cooled us down no end so it’s a great summertime addition. But it’s also great at parties for both kids and adults alike. I’m looking forward to adding a bit of vodka to mine at Christmas for an alcoholic slushie. The whole set is pretty easy to use as long as you have ice, salt and the slushie syrup. The later you can grab from quite a few places so it’s not hard to get. It didn’t take too long to create the slushies and it was an instant hit in our house.

Gift guide for home lovers: For someone who loves to do a spot of baking

I absolutely love baking but I definitely don’t do it enough. But this is going to change now I have my own Personalised Mixing Bowl* (£29.99). The bowl is really great quality ceramic so it’s hardwearing enough for any type of baking, mixing, whipping or whisking. I didn’t need any excuse to make cakes and biscuits and it really stood up to the test when I was creating my masterpieces.

You can personalise the bowl with any message up to 40 characters meaning you can give it an extra special touch. This would be a great addition to anybody’s kitchen.

For someone looking to get into the Christmas spirit

Christmas themed candles are my absolute favourites and I tend to burn them all the way through November and December and make space feel like you’re constantly baking. And that’s just what this Mrs Claus’ Bakery* (£22) candle from Willow & Finn does. You can smell the gingerbread and cinnamon spice in the candle and it’s the epitome of Christmas in my opinion.

You can smell the beautiful scent even without the candle being lit which is my idea of a great candle. And when it’s lit the scent throws around the room but isn’t too overpowering and sickly. The candle itself has a burn time of 15-20 hours which is enough to get you through the lead up to Christmas.

If you want to try out a few different scents you can pick up travel-sized candles like the Christmas Eve* I have for just £8. This is more of a fruity scent with mandarin in it.

For a great Christmas evening game

We have a bit of a tradition of playing games on Christmas Day evening. And then over Boxing Day will our aching bellies try to get over all the food. And each year I love to pick up a new one to try out with the family. 2019 is the year of Escape Room: The Game* (£30) which is quite apt considering I’ve done a lot of escape rooms this year.

Much like a physical escape room, you can enjoy the mystery from the comfort of your own home. Throughout the game, you need to find codes within an hour to escape including solving puzzles and riddles. What I love about this game is that there are three different games to solve so you can get more use out of the game. Then once we’ve played all 3 I can just sit back and watch others sweat under the pressure.

Gift guide for home lovers: For someone who loves home furnishings

I am a sucker for pretty home furnishings from knick-knacks and ornaments to cushions and throws. If you’re buying a Christmas present for anyone who’s like that then these cushions from Adam Home will be right up their street. They have so many great options for cushion covers and a lot of them come in a variety of sizes which gives plenty of choices.

I opted for the Geometric Hexagon Marble Cushion Cover* (From £6) and Serena Tropical Cushion Cover* (From £10) ready for when I get my new office. The marble effect cushion cover is stunning with rose gold detailing which is going to match perfectly in my office (when we get a house!) The covers are great quality and feel soft enough to comfortably sit against which is one bugbear I have about cushions when they’re too scratchy feeling.

The tropical cushion cover has a great pop of colour and these would be a great way of switching up your home decor without having to spend too much money.

For someone who wants to make their house smell amazing

I’m a huge fan of Wax Lyrical products and their Christmas lines this year are pretty great. The collection comes with three Christmas scents; Holly Jolly, Holiday Time and Snowy night. I have a reed diffuser* (£10), a large candle* (£10) and a small votive candle* (£4) across all three scents. The smaller candle has up to 14 hours of burn time which is great for the price, while the larger one has 35 hours. While the diffuser has 100ml of fragrance to help the home smell Christmassy for the festive period.

Holiday Time is the fruiter of the three scents packed with cranberry, raspberry, green apple and grape alongside some Vanilla. For me, the cranberry is the standout smell here and it’s beautiful. The snowy night is fresh and crispy with notes of snow lily, jasmine and amber but with hints of peppermint and bergamot. Holly Jolly is my favourite of the three with a light citrus scent alongside amber and vanilla. They all have a very cosy festive feel without going too obvious down the root of cinnamon and ginger scents.

For someone who’s always losing their belongings

It doesn’t matter how small a bag I have I always seem to lose my keys in a black hole. And my mum is pretty much the same. If you know someone whose always losing something then The Tile Pro* (£30 single + £50 double) is a great gift for them.

I have the pro double pack which comes with two tiles, but you can also buy them on their own. You can attach the tile to whatever you want like your keys, or an important bag to make sure you always know where it is. If you’ve misplaced it and it’s close by you can use your phone to call it and the Tile will alert you so you can find it. You can also do this the other way around and if you aren’t sure where your phone is then you can click your Tile and it will call your phone (even if it’s on silent). So it works both ways which is really impressive.

If you’ve left your Tile further away then you can see where it was last seen on a map. If this happens you can choose to alert other tile users in the area to get help finding your item which is such a cool concept.

I found our ones really easy to use and they slide so easily onto my set of keys so I know they’re always safe. Something like this is great for security and peace of mind. Especially if you’re forgetful and always leaving things behind. You can get slim-line Tiles which fit into your purse or wallet so that’s always safe.

Gift guide for home lovers: For someone who loves funky household appliances

An iron might seem like a pretty boring gift to give at Christmas, but not when it looks like this one from the Funky Iron Company. I have the turquoise funky iron* which is such a vibrant colour with a retro-looking feel to it.

I was expecting the iron to feel heavy to hold but it really doesn’t and it glides really smoothly. At just 1.3kg it has a 3-metre long power cord and a large 450ml water tank for ease of use. It comes with a heat-resistant silicone pad so you can rest your iron without worrying about damaging anything. The dial was really easy to use to manage the temperature and the built-in steam pump.

One of the things I loved about the funky iron is the fact that it has a lifelong anti-scale system built into it along with a water spray and self-clean buttons. Anything to make a boring task like ironing that little bit more interesting.

For someone who loves to display photos

I love having photos and prints up on the wall, but I also love the idea of being able to change them up regularly. Usually, I’m put off with the hassle of having to take the frame off the wall, pull it apart to change the image and then fitting it back on the wall. This Lil Davinci Frame* (£24.99) solves this issue as you can open the frame from the front so it doesn’t need to come off the wall.

If you’ve got kids and want to show off their drawings this works as a great way to display them, easily change them up and archive the photos. The A4-size frame can hold up to 50 drawings so there’s plenty of space to hang onto those memories. The frame itself is really sturdy so there would be no issues hanging it on the wall and it’s so easy to change the photos upon.
