AD- Items in this gift guide for him have been provided in exchange for inclusion but all thoughts and opinions are my own
As the weeks pass we creep closer and closer to Christmas. Most of my Christmas shopping is done, but the person I always seem to struggle with is my dad. I just tend to find after the alcohol and chocolate I tend to draw a blank. So for anyone else struggling here are some inspirations of what to buy. I’ve billed this as a gift guide for him, but there’s nothing in this guide which is exclusive to men.
Dashcams have become much more the ‘norm’ now which is kind of sad that we have to do. But they’re so sleek and snazzy now that you can feel safe without needing anything intrusive in your car. I tend to find my dad is fully on board with anything techie so this is a great option. The Nextbase 3ddGW Dash Cam* (£99.99) is the world’s first dash cam with Emergency SOS so you’re safer than ever before.
If anything was to happen it would alert emergency services of your location. It can also send crucial medical data which could aid treatment. While you never want to think about this kind of thing, something like this is incredibly advanced. It has a 2.5″ HD touch screen so it’s really easy to use and it has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for easy connectivity.
It wouldn’t be a Christmas guide without a Smartbox from Buyagift. This one is especially festive and aptly named the Happy Christmas Smartbox* (£49.99). This box offers 2,760 different experience choices so there’s no shortage of things to book from relaxation to adrenaline. Within the package, some experiences are for one person, but some like afternoon tea’s or dining experiences two people can enjoy them together.
These boxes are great when you’re just not sure what to get as the recipient can pick exactly what they want to do. Maybe they want to go bungee jumping, or perhaps they want a nice meal out. The booklet inside highlights some of the experience options, but online you can see them all.
Candles don’t just have to be for women, I know plenty of men who appreciate them too. But this You Rock Candle Hand* (£32.95) is great as a manly version. This candle would be great for any music enthusiast with a burn time of over 20 hours. Although the one issue I’d have is I wouldn’t want to burn it as it looks so great as an accessory on the shelves.
The thing I love most about this candle is the intricate detailing around the hand from the fingernails to the creases in the finger. It’s incredibly made and very life-like. The only issue I’d have with this candle is I wouldn’t want to burn it.
I’ve bought my dad a number of things from Men-U before and this time I’ve got the Healthy Hair & Scalp Shampoo* (£8.95) and the Daily Moisturising Conditioner* (£9.45). These are great travel-sized products at exactly 100ml each. So if you’re buying for someone who likes to go away they’re hand luggage safe. The shampoo is a complete cleanser and refresher for both the head and scalp. It’s especially good for those with itchy/ flaky scalps and for removing styling products which may be sitting in the hair.
The conditioner is moisturising and designed to put back into the hair anything essential which may have been stripped out. I’ve actually used this conditioner before and it does leave a really nice shine afterwards.

I didn’t really know solid cologne was a thing until I tried this Alexander Solid Cologne* (£14.99) but it’s such a great idea. Carrying an aftershave around to top up when you’re going out isn’t always practical. Bottles can be bulky or heavy, if you’re travelling you have to declare the liquid etc. So having a solid cologne bar eliminates these issues.
The Alexander scent begins with fresh grapefruit, bay leaf and jasmine. But then the woody notes come through like oakmoss and patchouli. As the cologne is made with all-natural ingredients and oils including shea butter it really hydrates and softens the skin when you swipe it on.
What do you get the man who has everything?! A novelty t-shirt of course. And this one is based on Star Trek but it’s Starling Trek* (£20). This T-shirt is limited edition and created by artist Richard Skipworth. And what’s even better is that £5 from each sale goes straight to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, so you’re doing a good deed too.
I don’t know too much about Star Trek but as soon as I showed it to Luke he cracked up laughing. On the front, there’s a smaller motif, with a larger image on the back. It depicts the characters from Star Trek as birds with puntastic names such as Dr Macaw.
As soon as I saw this Jurassic Park poster* (from £16.99) I knew it would be the right choice to pick up. Both me and Luke are fans of the Jurassic Park movie franchise but sometimes the main move poster can be a bit in your face. This beautiful artwork shows a T-Rek skeleton in the jungle, a helicopter in the background, a gradient sunset and the movie strapline at the bottom.
I think with this poster it’s more sophisticated than the poster but still shows our love for the movie. You can pick up the posters on their own, but you can also get them framed at the same time. For me this is something I love as I always worry I’ll gett the wrong size frame. And with this one the white border really makes the poster stand out, and the wooden frame feels like really good quality.

For the men in my life I can’t go wrong buying a bottle of alcohol. Thankfully my dad has eclectic tastes which gives me plenty of options on what to buy. And this Tomatin 12-year* (£44) is going to be a great addition to his collection. Tomatin do a number of different blends of whisky and the 12 year old is smooth and silky having matured over the time.
It’s a mixture of a traditional scotch, bourbon and sherry. So it’s got quite a traditional whisky taste but is still quite unusual. It has a slightly fruity aroma with notes of apples and pears which give it that clean taste. The brand have won plenty of awards including double gold at the 2019 San Francisco WSC and it features in a whisky bible for 2020. So you’d be in good company with this whisky. If you know anyone who loves a good whisky this is the present for you.
