I have had my trusty Amazon Prime account for a lot of years now, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t. And even though I am pushing to save as much money as possible I still think it’s worth paying for. At just £7.99 a month, or £79 a year it’s no more expensive than any other streaming or delivery service. But it offers so much more. Plus if you’re a student it’s free for 6 months then works out just £39 a year.
Here are some of the ways to save money and make the most out of your Amazon Prime Account.
The most obvious way to use your account is for next-day delivery. Initially, this was what I bought it for and I have used it so much. If you don’t have prime you have to spend a minimum of £20 to get free next-day delivery. But with Prime, you don’t have any limit on your spend total. This means you won’t end up buying things you don’t really need just to get free delivery. The delivery is great and very reliable as well which is fantastic.
It’s also great as you can choose a specific day for delivery. So if you know you’re out the next day you can opt to choose another day when you know you’ll be in. Or you can get it sent to an Amazon Locker. There’s one in my local shopping centre and sometimes I just send parcels here.
Depending on your area, if you have Prime you can get same-day delivery within 2 hours on some items. We’re lucky to be in an area where this is possible and have made plenty of last minutes orders through Prime Now.
Say you’ve run out of kitchen roll, or you are having a party and forgot to get certain snacks. Just check out Prime Now and you can select it for free delivery within 2 hours. I found this concept pretty amazing as to how fast the guys in the warehouse must have to work. You can download a separate app just for Prime Now.
If you’re an Amazon Prime member you get exclusive money off deals over Prime Day which is usually in June/ July. And again around Black Friday. The Black Friday Amazon promotions are fantastic and I always end up buying some great Christmas presents then. Prime members usually get early access to some deals or have exclusive deals that can only be purchased if you have Prime.
There are some great shows you can stream through Amazon. Parks & Recreation is enough of a reason on its own. With so many movies and TV shows to watch you could easily cancel your Netflix/ Now TV subscription for a few months and just take advantage of what’s on Prime. I haven’t explored the choice of movies anywhere near enough so it’s something on my to-do list for over the Christmas period.
Amazon has an optimised music service where you can stream music but also store and manage your own music. Whether you want to hook it up to your Amazon Alexa to play or use on your phone their library is at your fingertips. It may mean you can cancel your Spotify subscription.
If you’re an electronic reader (or want to start) Prime gives you plenty of opportunities to read for free. If you have a Kindle or Fire you can borrow top-selling books for free through the Kindle Owners Lending Library including the whole Harry Potter collection. If you use Amazon First Reads you can get a Kindle Book from the Amazon teams picks before the official publication date. If you’re a Prime member then this is absolutely free.
Prime members can also borrow content from Amazon Prime Reading for free. This includes books and magazines, and you can borrow up to 10 titles at a time.
You may have seen lots of influencer content around Prime Wardrobe. But if you haven’t it’s a Prime-exclusive service where you can try on clothing items before you buy. You can choose from eligible clothing, shoes, watches, and accessories and you have 7 days to try on the items at home. Then you’ll only be charged for what you keep. Anything else you can send back free of charge. This is great if you’re buying for an occasion and want to try on loads of options. Or you’re just not sure about brands sizes.
Prime membership includes unlimited photo storage which is insane. It’s not something I’ve yet taken advantage of but I need to as I spend money every month on additional cloud storage. The photo library comes with loads of features which means you can categorise photos by the people in the photo. And you can order prints and albums direct from the storage. You can upload all your photos from your laptop or phone and save precious memory space. Plus if your phone breaks you’ll have everything backed up.

I really need to try the amazon wardrobe side of prime
Me too, I keep meaning to do it but haven’t got round to it x
I have my Prime account for years, I love their one day delivery policy. And if it doesn’t arrive in one day, they give you the money back and let you keep the product.
I had no idea that they did that, I’ll have to keep an eye on when my deliveries arrive x
I must admit, I’ve never heard of the lending library or the wardrobe options. Thank you for highlighting these!
That’s amazing and definitely learned a new thing or two from this. i’m always up for trying out ways to save up some cash.
I would be lost without our amazon prime subscription. I think I utilise at least one of the services everyday
I’d be soo lost as well x

I have Amazon Prime but didn’t realise I had all these benefits. It is one of the non negotiables in my budget as we use so much of it but I will definitely be utilising more too!
Us too, although soon I think we’ll need to combine our accounts and not have seperates x
The benefits are really good if you have Amazon Prime, you just have to remember to make the most of them. I find it is certainly worthwhile having.
I am a Prime member and love it for its many benefits but I honestly did not know Prime had photo storage, I need that.
I couldn’t live without my Amazon Prime account. I use it for everything. I can’t wait for Black Friday
