What To Do In Aruba – My Trip Diary Days 4-6

street art in San Nicolas Aruba

AD- I went to Aruba thanks to Aruba Tourism so my trip was complimentary. But all thoughts and opinions on what to do in Aruba are my own

Just over a week ago I shared a post about what I got up to during my first 3 days in Aruba. And now I’m back with the second half of our trip. Although the trip never felt rushed or pushed, we did manage to cover a lot of things during our time on the island. And eat a lot of amazing food.

So let’s crack straight back in with what I got up to.

What To Do in Aruba Day 4

Beach Breakfast & Street art

On day 4 we started off by getting breakfast at Eduardo’s Beach Shack on the beach. I had a lovely peanut butter and sourdough concoction. But then it was off to explore the town of San Nicolas. Now San Nicolas is known for its vibrant street art all around and every single piece is absolutely beautiful. Every single year the island hosts an Art Fair where artists from all around the world come to create new murals. These works of art then stay on the walls until the following year. Although some are loved so much that they are kept around for longer.

We were actually in San Nicolas just one week before this event happened which was such a shame as I’m sure it would have been great to see. We wandered into some local artist stores and saw the beauty in an area which was brought to life with its art. On the way to our lunch spot, we stopped at Baby Beach and knew straight away that we wanted to come back here. The beach wasn’t too busy when we were there and the water was just incredible.

Authentic seafood and downtown

Probably the most popular restaurant on the island for both locals and tourists is Zeerovers seafood restaurant. It’s a simple restaurant with an even simpler restaurant. But something about the fresh seafood and the hands-on way of eating has made it very popular. I’ll talk about this is a bit more in my foodie post about the island, but this may have been my favourite meal of the whole trip.

After we filled our bellies we headed downtown to see another part of the island. From it’s brightly coloured buildings to it’s more city feel. There’s a local tram which works all around the main downtown and what’s even better is it’s free! I wasn’t expecting much but it’s stunning.

An afternoon of relaxing

We had a bit more spare time in day 4 so I spent some much needed time in the sunshine around the pool. A drink in one hand and a book in another was where I spent a few hours. Then it was time to head to our dinner spot for the evening, Local Store. This was more a bar-restaurant which once a week hosts live music. Sadly they were having a week off when we went so we missed out on the music. But the food and cocktails more than made up for it.

What to do in Aruba: Day 5

Starting the day off with some yoga

For one final full day, we were booked into a Yoga Class at a local hotel to start off with. Now anyone who knows me probably expects that yoga isn’t my thing and you’d be right. But there’s something about being semi-outside and smelling the salty sea air and feeling the heat that makes it so much more bearable. The teacher was great and although I modified a lot of the moves I did feel great after the hour-long class. Thankfully we were having breakfast straight after at the same hotel so my stomach wasn’t rumbling for long.

For our last full day, we had a hire car to explore a bit more of the island. So after breakfast, we picked this up. Thankfully my wonderful travel companion was happy to drive as I was a little sceptical having never driven abroad.

Exploring more of Aruba

The first thing we did when we had the car was head over to Baby Beach which we’d seen the day before. After a quick drink and a change into our swim gear, I was straight in the sea. The sea was beautifully clear and blue, and cooling but not cold. I could have happily spent hours in here, but I could feel my skin yelling at me for being in the midday direct sunlight. My body, in general, doesn’t do too well in direct sunlight so some shade was in order for me. I felt so relaxed here with the heat, the sand under my toes and a book I had to finish.

For the rest of the afternoon, we drove around bits of the island stopping for photo opportunities whenever we could. And before we knew it it was the evening. We’d fancied some Sushi and Japanese Food and from the recommendation of our hosts, we went to Yami Yami. It was a great decision to go here as we filled our faces full of great food (three different types of chicken in my case). And after this, I was done for the night.

What do in Aruba: Day 6

Paddleboard yoga and our final meal in Aruba

Our final morning in Aruba seemed to come around very quickly and after a quick hotel breakfast, it was time for our final activity; paddleboard yoga. Not content with yoga the day before this day we were doing it on a paddleboard in the ocean. I really wasn’t sure what to expect as this isn’t a class for the faint-hearted, but I needn’t have worried. We grabbed our paddleboards, laid down and paddled out to sea. But we weren’t just left to drift away, the class had a way of hooking everyone to a stationary point. So there was no chance I’d end up on the other side of the island.

As I have zero balance I didn’t even attempt to stand up on my board as I knew I’d end up in the sea faster than anything. So I did all the moves laying, sitting or kneeling. But closing my eyes and feeling the bobbing of being out on sea was so relaxing. I could have just laid on my board and relaxed all day.

By this point our trip was fast coming to an end so we headed back to our hotel to finish packing, change and get everything together before our final lunch at The Westdeck. This beach bar and island grill was so good, and after a few cocktails and plenty of food, I knew I’d be good for our journey back to the UK.

Keep your eyes on my blog as I’ll be doing a post about where I stayed in Aruba and another on all the great food we ate!
