Ways to Make Your Home Cosy for Christmas

Over the last few months, I’ve posted about decor ideas for our 2020 home with the most recent covering our kitchen and dining room. Now that next year is almost here, it won’t be long before we can put our plans into practice. However, we’re not only focussing on creating the perfect forever home but on enjoying our final Christmas here, too.

With limited time left living with my parents, this got me thinking about how I could make my space (a.k.a my bedroom) feel festive and cosy. I’ve come up with a few ideas that are easy to implement and thought I’d share them with you.

Add Christmas Scents

Changing the scent of any room can help it feel more snug while also adding to the Christmas feel and I like to do this by lighting lots of candles. The most effective way to add seasonal smells is by picking from wintery fragrances like spiced apple, cinnamon or berries.

Or if you’re like me and you enjoy spending time in the kitchen, then you could have some fun baking. I love enjoying a festive night in with all the delicious treats we’ve made and as a bonus, it also makes the living space smell lovely.

Choose Luxury Bedding

I love keeping warm under the covers when it’s cold outside. We couldn’t live without our winter quilt in the build up to Christmas. But I recently read these festive bedding facts about British bedrooms and found out only one-third of people in the UK buy a thick duvet in December.

If you don’t have one already, investing in a winter duvet is a must for a cosy home. This means you can stay in bed and watch films or bring your quilt through to the living room for a movie night.

Bring Nature Inside

This may not seem like the most obvious tip but I think bringing nature indoors can make a big difference to how snug your home feels. Because there’s a lack of greenery at this time of year I find myself drawn to plants. I like to add a couple to my room to make it feel a bit brighter.

You can make your plants feel festive by decorating them. You can add small baubles to tall floor plants or wrap pots in tinsel. This is a great solution for small spaces where you might struggle to find room for a Christmas tree.

Brighten Your Interior

I like to bring in new light sources during the dark winter months. Not only does this help to stop the season from feeling so dull but it brings the magic of Christmas into our space. And there are loads of ways to do it including fairy lights and candles.

There are ideas to brighten every area of your home. You can place a lit garland around the headboard or fireplace, hang cascading string lights from the ceiling or create a wall-mounted Christmas tree out of fairy lights.

Bring Out Textures

In the warmer months, you may find yourself drawn to lighter fabrics like cotton but in winter, I think playing with texture is key to creating a cosy home. This includes rich materials like velvet, faux fur and wool, as well as corduroy, shearling and chenille.

When it comes to textures, I believe you can never have too many. You can use this trick anywhere from the bed to the sofa. Just pile on layers of throws and cushions to get that warm and welcoming effect.

Do you have any tips for making your home feel cosy at Christmas?
