Six Reasons Why You Should Visit Aruba

AD- I went to Aruba thanks to Aruba Tourism so my trip was complimentary
but all thoughts and opinions are my own

In late October I was lucky enough to head to the Carribean island of Aruba. The island sits just 15 miles (24km) from the coast of Venezuela in South America. It’s a pretty small island at just 19.6 miles long and 6 miles across so you can explore a lot of the island even if you’re not there for a long time. Before going other than the sunshine I wouldn’t have been able to tell you any other reason why you should visit Aruba. But that’s now all changed.

I’ve written some posts about what I got up to, here’s what I got up to on days 1-3, and days 4-6. There was just too much to put into one post! But now I’m here to talk about some reasons why you should visit Aruba.

Why you should visit Aruba: It’s constant temperature all year round

As the island is near the equator it’s sunny pretty much all year round with very little change in the climate. It even boasts the accolade of having more sunny days than anywhere else in the Carribean. So it’s a great choice of destination to get the best weather possible! Peak time is around November – March namely because that’s the coolest period of the year for its tourists home countries.

Unlike some other Caribbean islands, Aruba doesn’t have a specific ‘rainy’ season. But when it does rain it tends to be during the night which isn’t an issue. But at a steady 82 degrees all year round it’s a great attraction to bring visitors to the island.

Visit Aruba for the 3rd best beach in the world

Eagle Beach has been named the 3rd best beach in the world by Trip Advisor with almost 10,000 ratings online. The popular beach resort has the classic Carribean feel with white sand and turquoise waters. But although it’s popular it never feels overcrowded as it’s a decent stretch of beach.

We stayed at The Amsterdam Manor Hotel (review coming soon!) and Eagle Beach was just across the road. So you can’t get much closer if you fancy a stay to give you the best access to this famous beach.

One of the top reasons to visit Aruba is for the fresh seafood

Most of the food that Aruba uses is imported as it’s a small island and the hot climate doesn’t always work well for growing produce. But the island boasts a great abundance of fresh seafood. Boats go out every single day to catch fresh seafood for the restaurants and shops across the island. And it’s something you’ll find in almost all restaurants.

Zeerovers is a fresh seafood restaurant popular with both locals and tourists. Although the restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside they have their own boat and go out and catch their fish each day. There’s no menu you get shrimp or their fish of the day depending on what they’ve caught. And this one was one of my favourite meals of the whole trip.

A reason why you should visit is Aruba is how safe it is

Because residents in Aruba appreciate how important tourism is to the country it’s an incredibly safe island. Without tourism, the island would struggle so tourists are very safe. I walked around on my own at night around the areas by my hotel and on the beach and I never felt unsafe. This is great if you’re planning on travelling on your own and want to just relax on an amazing beach for a week.

Aruba is seen as one of the safest of all the Carribean island. And while like anywhere there are petty crimes, as I said the residents appreciate tourism so much so the crimes tend to be between locals. In terms of other safety, the island is outside of the ‘hurricane alley’ is free from the threat of hurricanes. This is why you’ll notice all the buildings look very well kept and cared for.

Aruba was named the 4th top place to visit in 2020

While I was out in Aruba, Lonely Planet published their top 10 countries to visit in 2020. And Aruba landed at the number 4 spot. So I was just a little ahead of the game with my trip. Alongside the great cultural and colourful parts of the island, it was called out for its sustainability efforts.

Aruba is a testing hub for other countries’ renewable energy solutions. And while plastic bags and straws have long gone from the island, they’re working on implementing a ban on all single-use plastics and reef-destroying sunscreens in 2020.

San Nicholas street art in Aruba

Make sure you visit and explore San Nicolas

One of my favourite parts of the island was the colourful and beautiful town of San Nicolas which is full of amazing street art. And there’s so much of it to explore. Imagine Shoreditch in a sunny bright location and a much more relaxed atmosphere and you’re partway there.

Each year the island hosts an Art Fair where a lot of the street art is redone to make it fresh and artists come from all over the world to paint. Although some of the island’s favourites are preserved for longer than a year.If you come at the start of November you’ll get a chance to see the festival in action. We only missed it by about a week and I’m gutted about that!
