Keeping Your Car Safe On The Road

*This post has been written in collaboration about keeping your
car safe but all thoughts and opinions are my own

I’ve been through quite a few different cars in the last few years. In 2017 I bought a Renault Clio which now lives with my dad. And now I have a Mercedes C Class, although it’s at the garage after our tough Boxing Day. The car is about 4 years old now but having a car like this which has been owned since new means it should last a lot of years. We picked a car with the right modcons for us but if you didn’t good navigation systems for your car available here BUYCARPARTS.CO.UK

I might not use the car much but it’s important to keep it well maintained. Especially when we’re tyring to keep it looking it’s best.

Make sure it has a yearly service

I have a service plan for my car currently but every car previously I’d take to Kwik Fit to service. You can book them online cheaply and quickly and the nearest one to me is so close that I can walk home which is very useful. Services can help to spot problems with your car before they become a real issue. And it can help you to maintain your car to its optimal level. It’s definitely something to look at if you’re about to embark on a long journey to ensure you’re keeping your car safe.

Keeping your car safe by checking your lights

The number of times I’ve seen cars driving about with broken lights is unreal. And it can be really dangerous especially when it’s your indicator lights not working. In an ideal situation, you’d want to sit in the car and have someone walk around your car checking all your lights, brake lights and indicators. Then if any of these aren’t working you want to get them replaced asap. Luckily it’s quite easy to change a light yourself with the help of YouTube or a willing helper.

Ensure your tyres are healthy

Tyres are one of the most important parts of your car. And ensuring that they have the right pressure and wear is so important. I’m going to hold my hands up and say I don’t know what to do about checking tyre thread, much like a lot of people. And I’d have to get someone to help me to sort that out. I’ve been to petrol stations before and checked my tyre pressure and it’s so important that this is within range because if they have too much pressure they could burst, and not enough and you could have issues on your hands.

Make sure your battery is charged

In one of my previous cars, the battery was awful and just wouldn’t hold the charge and so often I’d pop to switch the car on and find it wouldn’t go so I’d need a jump start. This is not what you want at any point, let alone before a long journey so make sure that yours is in good condition. Signs that your battery could be low is if you have a very sluggish engine, it takes its time to switch on or you’ve had to jump start it before.

I think I’m lucky I don’t drive sometimes – there is a lot to think about!

Why is your steering wheel on the left hand side???
Those must be some pretty cool wheels to have that feature!

I think there are a lot of people round here with broken indicator lights!! I am a nightmare with cars, I just get my husband or Dad to have a look at anything I am worried about. I have no clue, but this has given me something to think about! 🙂

Great post. I think sometimes we forget to check things but so this serves as a good reminder considering winter is coming. I need to check my tire pressure.

Great points! My tyres were really low last year – I’m lucky I managed to change them before anything happened.

Great tips! My step brother told me about how he’s been given some box by his insurers which tracks his driving and makes him wary – the better he is, the lower the insurance!

We don’t have a Kwik Fitt on our island, but I wish we did as I’m sure it’d be much more affordable than our local independent garage! Great tips, these!

Fabulous post, especially for young or new drivers like my daughter. She has a 16 plate Mini Cooper and we have tried to tell her all these things too. I am going to get her to read this, so she can see it isn’t just us nagging lol xx

Great tips, my car is in the garage today actually having it’s end of warranty service. I like to keep on top of it’s maintenance.
