A Very Autumnal Month – October 2020 Overview

Autumn has hit us and while I’m pretty happy as I do love the Autumn months it’s just rained too much. Each time I look outside and think ‘I’ll go for a walk‘ or ‘I’ll walk to the shop and not drive‘ it starts raining. Thankfully October 2020 has been the month I finally got back into consistent exercise though.

I signed up for the Peloton app after getting a cheap basic spinning bike for home. And I’m now 8 weeks in. This past month I’ve properly got into my stride and I’m doing 4-5 classes a week. Although I do think I’m going to bite the bullet, be spendy and buy the actual bike. I went to try one out at a local John Lewis store and it just feels a million times better than what I’m using. So at least while the weather is bad I’m still getting some exercise.

With the clocks changing I enjoyed the extra hour of sleep, but it’s getting so dark so early. And I’m finding when I’m working by 4.30 it’s so dark it feels like night. But here’s a bit about what I’ve got up to in October 2020.

A bit of pampering

We’re due to go to Portugal on 1st November after rescheduling a trip from much earlier in the year. I don’t think I’d have chosen to go away at this time, but as it’s not been cancelled we’d lose out on lots of money if we don’t go. We’re in a villa as well which makes me feel far more comfortable about the situation when we’re there.

Because of the trip I finally gave in and had some pampering done this month. I went to get balalaye re-done in my hair after a whole year. But this time I went for reds and coppers as opposed to the typical blonde balalaye. I do miss not being a redhead so this gives me a hint of it back. Having not been to get my nails done where I now live I found a nice salon and treated myself to getting shellac done. For pretty much the whole year I’ve just been painting my own nails but I thought for the holiday I’d get it done properly so I know it will last.

October 2020 minimal social contact

During this whole pandemic, I’ve really not socialised or seen very many people. But I did manage to head round my friends to have dinner with her and her husband before London went into tier 2 (where they live). It was so nice to have a bit of a catch-up and feel a little bit more ‘normal’. I managed to squeeze in a brunch trip with my friend at the start of the month which was also nice as we went back to the very first place we had brunch when we met last year.

Just before heading on holiday, we had my parents round for dinner as they’d not been to the house since back in August. And while nothing huge has changed we have had some new furniture and little decorative bits. So it was both nice to see them but also nice to show them the new place.

It’s beginning to feel like Christmas

Most of my Christmas shopping will be done online this year. Although I did manage to get out to do some shopping twice in October 2020. Me and my mum did a day out in Watford which was a lovely day of present buying and inspiration hunting. And it ended in us getting a Nando’s takeaway which is an ultimate win. We don’t have a Nando’s close enough to our new house to get delivery so it was a real treat.

I also made a solo trip to London this month as I had a waxing appointment. So I thought I’d pop in some of the department stores (and Lush) to see what I could find. I didn’t buy too much, but it did give me lots of ideas.

We also pulled all of our decorations down from the loft so I could work out what we currently had and what we’d need to buy. As we’re having two trees year and have a whole house to decorate I’ve been picking up decorations as I go. When I’m back from holiday (and have done my mandatory isolation) I want to hit up all the supermarkets. So I can explore their festive aisles and Christmas decorations.

On the blog, my first Christmas gift guides have also gone up which makes me very happy as I love doing them.

I’ve not done much really – done quite a bit of Christmas shopping and had a lot of work on but that’s about it really!

Awww the first Christmas in your new home! 🙂 Hope it’s a fab one! I am totally envious of the holiday… and a pamper session at the hairdressers. I need to get my locks tended to asap! An awesome positive post to read! Sim x

There is nothing quite like a bit of pampering is there? I have to admit all my months this year have been pretty much the same I’ve done nothing and gone no where lol.

You can’t beat a bit of pampering, especially when it is in preparation for a holiday! We had a busy October with load of birthdays, but now November is lovely and quiet 🙂

I have just put up all the decorations at work and ended up covered in glitter, not ready to put them up at home quite yet though. I would love some pampering, I had my hair cut last month but it feels like a distant memory now

Yay for being able to squeeze in some pampering, I always feel a little better afterwards although my hair appointment for cancelled due to the second lockdown so it is definitely much overdue now lol! Glad you managed to get in some Christmas shopping, I did the same by getting out to the shop for inspiration before lockdown but will be doing most of my shopping online. I cant wait to see how you decorate your new home! x

So I had to google ‘balalaye’ as I’d never heard that term before! Did you post a pic of it done? I’d love to try that on my hair.

I think I only posted it on my Instagram stories to be honest. But I’ll try and get another one, it’s such a nice subtle way to colour and lasts much longer x

Let me know how you get on with the Peleton app. Where did you get your cheap spinning bike from?

    • Rhian Westbury says:

I got mine from Amazon for £200, it’s not the best thing but it’s been enough to know that I love spinning. The pelaton app is absolutely great x
