Could Your Bare Face Be The Cure For The Modern Makeup Curse?

Let’s be honest – our favourite makeup items and the wonders that they work are the closest that many of us come to performing magic. Certainly, nothing beats a completed canvas for making you feel gorgeous and ready to face the day.

Unfortunately, as many women are finding, societal influences to spend hours on our makeup every day can make that magic feel more like a curse. Far from something that we use to empower ourselves, one in three women report that they wouldn’t dream of leaving the house without makeup. This, and the hours that we now often spend on this task, suggests that something drastically needs to change.

Of course, no one should stop you from wearing makeup if you want to, but it is worth breaking the unhealthy habit so that you enjoy the pleasures and confidence that those products could still bring. To do that, consider the following ways to boost your confidence enough to leave the house even without your makeup mask on.

Face up to the cover-up

Many of us use makeup to cover aspects of our appearances that we don’t love. It may be that you use a concealer to cover your budding wrinkles or lipstick to fluff your otherwise thin lips. These are common issues, and facing up to them is the first step towards confidence both with and without makeup. Even better, being honest with yourself about this unhealthy usage means you can put much more sustainable beauty plans in places, such as skincare, or even lip fillers and botox. These steps can take you a whole lot closer to loving the skin you’re in, even when your face is bare.

Hold your head up high and go bare face

In large part, looking and feeling your best without makeup is all about holding your head high. If you spend the whole time hunched and trying to use your hair as a cover, then you’re never going to look vibrant. By comparison, keeping your head up even when you don’t feel confident can work wonders for making you shine. That’s going to change the way people interact with you when you’re makeup-free, and that alone could see you settling into this new norm.

Practice to get it perfect

If you’ve worn makeup every time you’ve left the house in the past ten years, then you need to accept that you’ll struggle to just go cold turkey. Rather, going makeup-free is something that you need to practice, and it’s always best to start small. For a few weeks, try taking your face off every time you get home, and getting used to how that looks. Then, go makeup-less to see your family or friends, before finally braving an out-of-the-house excursion. That way, when you do take that all-important last step, you might just find that it doesn’t bother you in the slightest.

After all this, the decision about whether or not to wear makeup will rest 100% with you, safe in the knowledge that you’ll feel and look amazing either way!
