*This is a collaborative post on celebrating Mother’s Day from a distance
Spending time with the people you love is so important and was one of the key things we all learned in 2020. Sadly, owing to the relentless COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, we can’t all spend Mother’s Day with our mums this year. In what has been a tremendously difficult 12 months, some mothers are now facing the prospect of a second consecutive Mother’s Day without seeing their children. Nevertheless, there are plenty of ways that you can treat your mum from afar this Mother’s Day, so here is a quick run-through of some suggestions.
Make sure your mum has something to open on the day to make her feel special this Mother’s Day. If you want to spend a little more than you might normally to make up for being unable to go and visit her, then why not team up with your siblings and go all-in on something more expensive, like that pasta maker or bread machine she’s been longing after throughout lockdown?
You can even send Mother’s Day flowers online now too – it’s super straightforward. What’s nice about sorting these things in advance is that your mum will have something to open right away when she wakes up. If you are feeling super generous you could even order a freshly prepared breakfast for her through a delivery app like Deliveroo, Uber Eats, or Just Eat. What a treat!
What your mum will most be looking forward to this year will be seeing all of your faces. So, get a Zoom party organised well in advance and get the whole family involved – no excuses! There are plenty of fun ways to jazz up a Zoom call in 2021 too, it needn’t just be a sit-down chat. You could create a personalised quiz all about your mum to test your family members’ knowledge, or you could all enjoy a game of Among Us – a real Zoom party favourite from 2020! Whatever you choose to do, your mum is bound to appreciate all of the efforts you will have put in to get everybody together on her special day.
Finally, use this opportunity to look forward to next Mother’s Day and plan how you might spend next year’s celebrations. Perhaps you could all go on a long weekend away together? Alternatively, you might choose to throw a big garden party at your parents’ house and bring together even more family members who you might not have seen in a while owing to the pandemic. Whatever you decide, your mum will be delighted that you are already planning a “proper” celebration for 2022 giving her something to look forward to before this year’s Mother’s Day is even out.
Hopefully, this guide helps you to give your mum the best Mother’s Day celebrations in the circumstances. Lockdowns aren’t easy but going the extra mile can make somebody feel extremely valued, particularly during these extremely difficult and very uncertain times.
