*This is a collaborative post on family-friendly places to visit in the UK, but all words, thoughts and opinions are my own
Summer 2021 is all about the UK holiday. Regardless of what countries might be on the green or amber travel lists, why risk it when there are so many places to visit in the UK?!
I will admit despite there being loads of places on my UK bucket list it’s not somewhere I’ve explored that much. But whether you want a weekend trip or a full-on summer holiday you’ve got loads of options.
If you are a caravan or motorhome owner already, or you’re thinking about buying one then you have the option to avoid navigating hotels and B&Bs. In the UK there are two clubs called the Caravan and Motorhome Club and the Camping and Caravanning Club. Both offer the chance to stay on their club sites to members and non-members and are a great option when looking for somewhere to stay with your caravan or motorhome.
Both of the clubs own and are affiliated with a range of campsites across the UK, and many of them are exclusive to members. To really make the most of your motorhome or caravan, club membership is available for a small annual fee and gives you access to every site in the roster of that respective club as well as a host of other benefits. Benefits can range from deals on insurance to offers on attraction entrance fees but differ between the clubs.
You can find many sites across the country from both the Camping and Caravanning Club and the Caravan and Motorhome Club. Plus many are open all year round so you can get away whenever you want to regardless of the time of year.
For year-round camping ideas when visiting a club site, you should check out Bailey of Bristol’s blog post on seasonal trip ideas when visiting motorhome and caravan club sites.
I thought I’d start off with somewhere very close to my heart that I always want to revisit. Edinburgh as the capital city of Scotland is one of the top places to visit in the UK in my opinion. There are typical tourist attractions including the Edinburgh Castle where the Scottish crown jewels live, Holyrood house which is the royal residence when they’re in Edinburgh and the Royal Yacht Britannia.
There’s also loads of great foodie spots, a gin distillery and loads of shops. Plus it’s a great base to explore more of Scotland from. We did a Loch Ness trip when we last went which was super fun.
Our trip to Bristol a few years ago sadly didn’t end up happening and I’ve been meaning to go back ever since. Bristol is a historic maritime city and is famous for Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s Clifton Suspension Bridge which does its own illuminations. Plus you can visit Brunel’s steamship the SS Great Britain which is the number 1 attraction in Bristol. The ship is the world’s first great ocean liner and was rescued from rust and wreckage in 1970 when it was restored.
You can also explore the We The Curious Science Museum, take a guided bus tour of the city and so much more. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, including Chance & Counters – a dedicated board game cafe that has also expanded to Cardiff and Birmingham, and Bristol & Bath’s Rum Distillery where they make Dead Man’s Finger Rum. You can do a tasting and then create your own blend of rum which is a great idea for a night out!
Cornwall is one of my wishlist of places to visit in the UK, but I feel like you need a good week to explore due to how long the journey is, and how much there is to do there. The area itself is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site and is full of great beaches, little fishing villages and stunning scenery.
The Eden Project has been on my to-visit list for a long time, they even used to put on live music shows there which would be amazing to attend. You’d struggle to find an ecosystem as diverse as what you’d find at the Eden Project. You can enjoy some traditional Cornish pasties, Cornish Ice Cream, Cornish Cream Tea or freshly caught seafood. Anything your heart (or stomach) feels like!
With countryside, beaches and towns to explore, it makes it a great spot to visit with a caravan or motorhome.

Thank you for your comprehensive post, with us just thinking of travelling locally for the moment, holidaying in a caravan club and motorhome is something we are considering this summer and possibly next
Even though I’d trust a hotel, knowing that it’s just you and your family in a space like a caravan is a nice feeling x
Honestly, this sort of thing is far more appealing to me for this year than going abroad. It’s good to find sites you can park that are near good attractions. I want to go to Cornwall too!!!!
Ah! I definitely want to explore the UK more. I’ve only been to London twice. I loved it, but exploring the countryside would be amazing!
There’s so much beautiful countryside to explore as well x
I think staycations are on the rise and it’s a lot cheaper and less hassle to just stay within the UK but there’s so many beautiful destinations to discover. x
Oh wow, what a useful post! We have been trying to figure out holidays this year, and a caravan is such a great idea.
Having a motorhome means you can kind of go wherever you want and explore so much as you’re taking your accommodation with you x
My in laws have two caravans and are always on their travels to somewhere in the uk , will definitely tell them about some of these for when I see them next
It’s my dream to one day own a motor home. I just love all the places we could see and explore if we had one.
Such a great post. My husband would love to get a motor home but I’m just not sure. I think we need to hire one and see how we get on.
I quite fancy traveling around Scotland in a motorhome once my kids are old enough not to come with us. I think it would be fabulous.
I’d love to do a Scotland road trip, there’s so much to explore and a motorhome would make it so much easier x
I haven’t been on a caravan holiday for yoinks, since I was a boy. It is certainly is remarkable where you can travel in the UK with a caravan.
I stayed in a motorhome with some friends at Glastonbury once and the experience was amazing, so much better than camping haha x
