I hadn’t intended it to be a busy month but looking back it feels like it has. I’m still taking things very slow and not organising too much (even though this post won’t seem like it). Pre-pandemic I was used to being out a few times in the week and all weekend. But even when I’m more comfortable later in the year/ next year I don’t want to go back to those times. I’m loving the balance between home time and going out time.
Here’s what I got up to in July 2021 and how the month shaped up.
At the start of the month, I finally ticked Kew Gardens off my London bucket list. We managed a full hour or so of exploration before the heavens opened. But it was really nice being out in nature, seeing all the trees and the beautiful things growing in the greenhouses.
I had a couple of days off near the start of the month and I spent one of those days on a solo London trip. I explored Borough Market and ate some yummy food. Then I wandered around Primrose Hill and climbed to the top for some beautiful views across London. And I ticked a foodie spot off my bucket list before going to the theatre to see The Prince of Egypt. I had such a lovely day doing what I wanted to do and it reminded me how much I need solo days out every so often.
Then near the end of the month, me and Luke had a date night at a place called The Pixel Bunker in Milton Keynes. It’s basically a retro games arcade with loads of machines from as early as the 1960s and 1970s. We had loads of fun playing the games and seeing how far technology has come.
I had two social days this in July with my work colleagues. We all met for lunch at the Waffle House in St Albans which was really nice. We’ve only met as a full team once before in person so it was just to just socialise and spend time together. We had a team trip to Go Ape planned for the following day which I actually chickened out of the experience and watched from the safety of the floor. It was a super hot day and we were doing the higher walks and my brain and body just said no. I am determined to go back to one of the locations and do the lower one to ease myself in.
We managed to host two nights with friends at the house who haven’t seen our place before. One Sunday two of my friends came round for a real reminiscing session which ended with lots of laughter. Then another night two friends came round for a nosy at the house and a pizza night. It’s been nice hosting more people at the house more and I can’t wait to do it again.
I had four movie experiences over July which was pretty good going. And there were more movies I wanted to see but I just didn’t get a chance. We started the month with an Imax viewing of Black Widow which was good but just felt like it was 4-5 years too late in the making. Then we went to a local drive-in cinema after getting vouchers last year so we watched the latest Fast and Furious movie. It was exactly what you’d expect from the movie so very enjoyable.
I went to see Space Jam on my own which was enjoyable as much for the pop culture references from Warner Bros’. Then we ended the month back at the Imax to see The Suicide Squad which was so good. The movie didn’t exclusively focus on Harley which I liked, the other characters had their airtime. And it was a great mix of funny, but also action and gore.
I got to spend a weekend in Portsmouth with a group of girls for a friend’s hen party. We had such a fun weekend including indoor adults play zone which was great (but sweaty), a Mamma Mia dance class, a scavenger hunt, and some good food and company.
I didn’t know anyone other than the hen before the weekend so it will be nice to know some more people at the wedding. And it was over the hottest weekend so it was great to be out and about enjoying the weather.
We’ve been making some progress in our house with a few more updates.
After having it in our garage for a year we finally have our air conditioning units fitted and working. We have one unit in our bedroom which means that we no longer have to have fans in the room. And we have a unit in the living room which can cool downstairs whenever we need it. The first night was a little crazy as we had quite a lot of water leakage in the bedroom. But a pump installation has fixed that.
The tiling in our bathroom has all been finished (other than a clean-up). So it’s now just a case of installing the radiator, toilet, sink, and basin unit and we’re done. That should be 1-2 days of work and then I can finally enjoy the bathroom and have a bath that I’ve been dreaming of since I became bathless about 2.5 years ago! It’s well overdue.
Although it technically happened on 1st August it’s before this post has gone up so I’m counting it. Me and Luke had our second COVID vaccines which I’m so happy about.
We’ve also booked a few more things for our wedding in 2023 including the photographer and videographer so a lot of the bigger things are now covered.
And finally, we’ve put down a deposit on two little kittens who will be joining us when they get to 8 weeks old on 12th September. We can not wait for them to join our little family! We’ve started to buy some things that we know we need like beds, a scratching post, litter trays, etc. But the rest will probably come in August.

I’ve always wanted to visit London. I’ve heard so many great things about it.
Sounds like you have had an amazing holiday soon as the lockdown restrictions have been lifted. Kew Gardens sounds like fun, I hope to visit it next time I visit London
I wish I’d been on holiday haha, just a few little days out around work, but still plenty of fun x
Take me to London please! I looooove London, it is a gorgeous city, I can’t wait to go back there.
Hopefully you’ll get to come back soon x
What an exciting time! I’m so happy to see things returning back to normal slowly but surely! I’m looking forward on the wedding and kitten updates!
Yum! the waffle house sounds perfect for me! I LOVE waffles so much!
Getting out of the house feels great, glad you got out!
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a hen party before, and it sounds like fun! Sounds like you had a good July.
That’s so strange, I didn’t think they were just a British thing x
It sounds like an ace month and similar to mine in many ways a visit to Kew, seeing Black Widow and is that a visit to the Waffle House in St Albans? I love it there!
Yep the St Albans waffle house, can’t beat it! Although we missed out on breakfast so I need to head back for breakfast soon x
Looks like you had a great July month! I’ve been living in London for the past two years, yet haven’t visited Kew Garden or Buckingham Palace or any tourist places except for London Eye! Thanks to the pandemic I’ll have to visit all these places before leaving this country! Love your outfit ā¤ļø
I hadn’t been to a lot of touristy places for ages, despite living on the outskirts of London but it’s well worth doing before you leave x
Love your blog! Definetly will keeo this in mind for my next trip to London! Thanks for sharing all the information!
It is so good to hear that you got back out and about! I have also been to the movies – and totally need to go to Kew Gardens again.
London was so vibrant when I visited some years ago. Good you could enjoy a movie. In India all that is still under lockdown!!!
