Moving house is a big decision, and not one that can should be taking lightly.

Research conducted by estate agents, Yopa, found that 60% of people put off moving because it’s just too stressful. And when you factor in the costs involved with buying a home, it’s easy to see why some would rather just stay put.

There are plenty of reasons that you might not want to move, perhaps you’re near a good school… you might even like your neighbours! (Strange, but it has been known to happen.)

Despite the reasons to stay, you’ve still probably got a little tired of looking at the same four walls every day. If so, then here are just five ways that you can give your humble abode a new lease of life!

Rendering

So maybe you can’t move, but have you considered making your dwelling look like a completely new house?

Rendering, like the products supplied by the experts at Direct Building Products, is a coating for your exterior walls. Not only will the variety of available colours and textures modernise your home, but rendering works wonders to protect your walls from the terrible weather we tend to get!

Revamp your home with paint

Changing the colour of your surroundings is a simple way to achieve a big difference with a minor renovation.

Adding a splash of colour can brighten up the room and boost your mood, whereas more tranquil pastel colours create a calm and relaxing environment.

If you’re not ready to commit to painting all the walls, instead you could opt for a feature wall with a bold paint colour of fun patterned wallpaper to create a focal point to the room.

Natural Light

Letting in as much natural light as possible is a great way to improve the look of your home.

If it’s in your budget and layout capabilities, consider having a skylight installed; these often work wonders in kitchen extensions, making the room feel more inviting.

And look out the windows. Are there any trees or plants blocking the light? Clear them away so you can let the sun filter through your windows.

Revamp your home with Wall Art

If you don’t want to commit to painting, then wall art is an excellent way to add a dash of colour to a room. And the best part about it, you can change it up as often as you like!

There are plenty of places to find wall art of all colours and styles, head on down to homeware stores such as Ikea, or even browse from the comfort of your sofa with online stockists like Absolute Art

Declutter

Over time, we accumulate more and more stuff, especially if we haven’t moved house in a while.

Carve out some time to have a thorough declutter, you’ll probably find that you have plenty of stuff that you haven’t used in years that you could take down to the local charity shops.
