*This is a collaborative post on the golden rules to work better from home
Did you know that according to a recent survey, 70% of workers worldwide work from home? For many, flexible employment sounds like a dream – and it often is! But not always. A typical work-from-home scenario unfolds somewhat like this… Your alarm clock rings 10 minutes before you start work, turn on the laptop and start. It does not cross your mind to get dressed – since no one will see you, working lying on the couch has always been your dream.
This scenario is repeated until your waist gets caught or you get bored of seeing yourself in your pyjamas. Somewhere there, you wonder: why do you work from home? So to take advantage of the positives of this way of working, be productive, and catch the sometimes negative details, follow the following tips.
You will need a regular desk, a good (ergonomic) chair, a screen, keyboard and mouse. The dining room or kitchen table is not a solution – unless you want to get cervical.
Dress every morning as if you intend to go out. This way, you will feel more “professional”, even if you dress in “casual Friday” style every day of the week.
Before looking at your emails, take a walk in the neighbourhood to change shows, thus separating sleep from work.
Because cooking takes time – which you often will not have – organize from the previous night, preparing an extra portion for your lunch.
When you work from home, you end up not moving much. Aiming at 10,000 steps, even walk around the kitchen table if you have to – ideally outside the home!
Sometimes, the very quietness of your home and the fact that you have not seen a person all day can make you feel like a shipwreck on a desert island. And do not forget that loneliness also has its positives! Locate 1-2 cafes in your area and work from there a few hours a week.
Without the daily routine of the office, the days may seem the same. Organize your obligations a little, work concentrated without interruptions and then go out. Depending on where you live, a short trip to the park, a museum or the sea will refresh you!
In addition to working at peak hours, working from home will help avoid office gossip, poor ventilation, obnoxious colleagues, and travel expenses. Above all, however, you will enjoy the flexibility and variety that you can incorporate into your daily routine. With your laptop, you can work from anywhere. Neighbourhood cafes, friends’ houses, cottages, other cities, other countries. With good internet you can get anywhere – work in the morning, explore at night! An example of a job that offers you flexibility but, at the same time, the opportunity to be creative is definitely that of the voice actor.
Now the voice actors have the opportunity to work from home, as they have the equipment to do their job and the appropriate know-how. Thus, in this way, they are highly productive working from home, enjoying all the positive elements of teleworking and creation. If you want to join this huge group of actors and narrators, visit voquent.com and join this large and talented team of the agency.
From 2005 until today, home employees have increased by 140%, as more and more companies offer this opportunity to their employees. The benefits for companies are manifold – including a reduction in fixed costs and an estimated increase in labour productivity. If your employer does not offer -still- the choice of telework, suggest the idea even for some days of the week, presenting the positives of this lifestyle for the company and for you.
