At the moment pretty much the only thing I can think about is DIY and decorating. This is what happens when you’re house hunting, colour schemes and furniture layouts are invading my brain. But it’s a great thing to be planning for. We know we’re not going to be able to do everything we want to straight away and we’re going to need to prioritize. And we know that some things we’ll need to call in professionals for. I’ll be finding out your job cost to get an idea of how much it will cost to get people in. In the meantime here are some cheap ways to alter your bedroom to make a big impact.
This may seem like a pretty simple one, but by painting your bedroom you can change the look of the room drastically. But don’t just stick with the walls. Painting door frames, coving, and skirting boards can make a room look instantly fresher. It’s amazing how much difference a good pot of white paint can make to a room. If the room has got wallpaper on the first strip this off yourself as it will give a smoother finish.
If you can’t afford to change the flooring get a rug. Once you have a bed and all your furniture in the bedroom chances are there won’t be a huge amount more floor space to cover. So you can get a pretty modest rug and make a huge change to the main part of the floor. Think about the comfort factor and how it will feel on your feet when you first get out of bed in the morning. In my mind the fluffier the better.
We have a divan bed and it is amazing with the amount of storage it offers. If you can’t afford to buy a new bed but want to optimise your storage get some storage boxes for underneath. The more items you can keep out of sight tucked away the more relaxing your bedroom will feel. You can use it to home out-of-season clothing, spare shoes, presents, bedding, or anything else that needs a home.
At the end of the day, the main thing we do in the bedroom is sleep. And having really good bedding makes a big difference. You can opt for some ultra-soft ones like these from Lifewit on Amazon.
There are loads of great alternatives like brushed cotton and waffle for the wintertime. Or maybe it’s better to go for layers and get a super soft blanket. A change like this not only will make your bed look fresh but you’ll feel amazing after sleeping in it.
It might not instantly change the look of a room, but cheap ways to alter your bedroom to feel more relaxing include scent. You can pick up aroma diffusers quite cheaply now to have a constant scent around you. This is great if you want it on while you’re not there, something you can’t do with a candle. And you can choose the essential oil you want pumping out. We tend to opt for lavender to create a calming space for the bedroom.
