*This is a collaborative post on how to keep yourself happy
Being happy is vital not just for our personal health and wellbeing but also for the happiness of others around us. To be a more helpful, kind, and loving parent, for example, we must be content with ourselves. We need to be cheerful and focused at work in order to be more productive. To have a good connection with another person, we must first have a healthy relationship with ourselves. So, here are some ways to keep yourself happy in order to benefit yourself and the people around you.
Your mind is just as important as your body when it comes to staying healthy, and even a short stroll around the block can help to decrease stress levels – in many situations, a quick walk around the block is enough to reset your thinking, lower cortisol levels in your body, and replace them with serotonin and endorphins. If you don’t believe you have time to exercise, consider getting up 10 minutes earlier and going for a brisk walk or a jog after breakfast. This will make you feel happy and enthusiastic about the day ahead, as well as help you stay fit and healthy.
When it comes to our health, it might be tempting not to keep appointments, but they are so crucial, not to mention that someone else could have the appointment if we do not attend. If you’re feeling ill, go to the doctor, even if you’re concerned that you’ll be wasting their time; it’s much better to be told there’s nothing wrong than to put off seeing someone and for the situation to worsen.
You can schedule other appointments on a regular basis to ensure that nothing out of the ordinary is occurring. These include going to the dentist and an optometrist. Your dentist, for example, will be able to detect symptoms of gum disease, and your optician will notice if you need a new pair of glasses. Making and keeping these regular check-up visits can keep you in excellent health.
Writing down your thoughts and emotions is quite therapeutic, and you can be certain that anything you write in your diary is yours and yours alone to know about, so you can be completely honest and express what you feel. This might be your thoughts and emotions, things you are thankful for in your life, things you are concerned about, or even things you desire for in the future. Taking a few minutes each night before bed to write all of this down will free your mind from having to worry about it, ensuring you get a better night’s sleep, which will make you happier the following day.
Because life has a tendency of getting in the way, we can quickly lose contact with our friends, even if we were previously exceptionally close. We can make ourselves extremely happy by getting in contact with these old friends – preferably over the phone, but email or other ways will do. As you experience the past together, the years will slip away, and any anxieties about work and family, for example, will go away too.
If you can meet up with your friends, that’s the best thing of all. Not only do you get to spend time with people you enjoy being with, but you’ll be so caught up in the present that you won’t be able to help but be happy. Escapologic escape rooms are the perfect example of something you can do together that will put a smile on everyone’s faces.
Everyone needs a little “me time” from time to time. We’re all so busy that it’s hard to find time to do something we like on our own. Instead of seeing me time as selfish, you should see this as an opportunity to rejuvenate both yourself and your relationships with those close to you. It’s healthy for you, and it’s good for them. There are a variety of ways to relax, such as going to the spa, listening to music, or even taking a power nap.
Even though technology is wonderful, there are moments when it makes us really miserable. If you find that checking your email or social media accounts is the first thing you do in the morning, and you feel unhappy because the news is terrible, people are complaining (or bragging), or the email you were hoping for hasn’t yet arrived, try not looking at all. Only check your phone after you’ve gotten up, meditated, exercised, eaten breakfast, and are otherwise ready to tackle the day.
