*This is a collaborative post on the top reasons to move to the UK

To those of you that live in the UK, it might not seem like an incredible place to live. However, we definitely take a lot for granted when we’ve been here our whole lives. People from overseas are constantly trying to move to this country, so it must be doing something right!

When you take a step back and compare it to other places in the world – particularly some of the other ‘big’ countries – you realise that, actually, there are plenty of reasons to move to the UK. If this is something you’re considering, here’s why it could be such a great choice:

Free healthcare

Easily the number one reason to move to the United Kingdom.

We are completely and utterly blessed to have the NHS here, providing free healthcare services to people around the country. You can have countless doctor’s checkups and get prescriptions without spending a penny. Granted, there are issues with the NHS that can be improved, but it is still one of the best systems in the world and proves that free healthcare does work.

There are so many benefits of the NHS that UK residents don’t even appreciate because we’re so used to them. For example, British citizens are entitled to free maternity care. This means the entire cost of scans, delivering the baby, and postnatal care is free. By contrast, in the US, it can cost thousands of dollars just to have a baby!

Easy access to all parts of the country

Another underrated benefit of being in the UK is that you have easy access to every corner of the country. There are local flights that can last about an hour at most, getting you from one end of the country to another. All major cities, like London, will have trains taking you to other big places in the UK.

Comparatively, other countries are much larger than this, so it’s harder for you to actually explore the place you live. Again, compared to the US, many people may never travel outside of their own state! It’s simply too big of a country to ever really explore.

Those of you that want to live somewhere and truly immerse yourself in the culture will enjoy being in the UK. Okay, the weather isn’t great, but you can still travel around and see some amazing tourist attractions up and down this little island.

It’s relatively easy to gain citizenship

If you have relatives that are British citizens, it’s pretty easy to gain citizenship through this. But, if you’re going down the naturalisation path, it’s still a pretty easy process to deal with.

Once you have completed your five years of residency, you can apply to be a citizen. From here, you have to take the British citizenship test. Funnily enough, this is one of the easiest citizenship tests around as all of the answers are easy for you to find. There are also so many tests online that you can use to help you get the correct answers. In fact, you can practice here to see what the questions are and how to answer them.

After being in the UK for a few years, you’ll quickly be able to become a fully-fledged British citizen. This lets you enjoy all the benefits of living in the UK – such as legally being able to work here without any immigration restrictions!

Move to the UK- quick access to the rest of Europe

The geographical location of the UK means it’s a fantastic place to give you quick access to Europe. In fact, you can get to France, Belgium, and the Netherlands by train in a matter of hours. This is really beneficial for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, if you used to live in a European country, it means you are never far from home. Most flights to central Europe are a couple of hours long, and they can be super cheap outside of peak holiday times. It lets you travel back and forth to see your extended family if you get a bit homesick.

Secondly, if you live in the US, it gives you access to holidays that you’ve never been able to afford. Flights from the US to Europe can be expensive, not to mention how long they are. You can now travel as freely as you like, while still living in an English-speaking nation!

Lots of job opportunities

The UK is home to a few bustling cities with loads of impressive job opportunities lying in wait. Of course, London is the biggest and busiest city in the UK. It is home to millions of people, has a bustling central business district, and houses so many job prospects. Likewise, you have Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, etc. Some of these cities offer more unique job prospects than others.

For example, Manchester is widely known as one of the best places for jobs in the media. Outside of these big cities, there are smaller ones that still provide brilliant career prospects.

Similarly, you have a whole plethora of universities in the UK. If you want to move abroad to gain an education, this is a very popular country to do so. It’s home to the world-famous Oxbridge universities, as well as many other prestigious institutions.

Move to the UK for cultural diversity

Finally, one of the best things about the UK is the cultural diversity. Every city you visit will be a melting pot of different cultures all mixing together. There are quarters dedicated to specific cultures, some amazing restaurants all around the country, and so much more.

It is easily one of the most diverse places you can find on the planet!

All in all, there are two main reasons this post has been created. The first is obvious; it’s for anyone living outside of the UK that’s considering whether or not to move here. But, the second reason is to maybe give people currently living in the UK a sense of perspective. You might wonder if it’s worth staying here or moving abroad. By all means, it could still be a better idea for you to move away. However, this should hopefully shine a light on a few things that you may miss if you do emigrate.
