Another month ticked off and my goodness it was the hottest August I can recall. I don’t think I’ve worn jeans more than twice in the last few months as it’s just been too warm. I’m not built for the heat but this August 2022 has still been a fantastic month.
Our work holiday year ends on August 31st so after rolling over my max number of days I had a few left to take so a long weekend was on the cards.
I coupled my two days off with a trip to see Sister Act in London and it was sensational. Beverley Knight’s voice was just incredible, Jennifer Saunders was hilarious as expected and the whole cast was perfect. It’s finished in London now but set to tour the UK. I’d highly recommend going (even though the big names aren’t in the touring version).
I had a lovely solo day in London including a lovely pasta lunch, some wandering around shops and relaxing in a park to read.
At the start of the month I headed down to Bournemouth to catch up with a few friends. It was such a nice day of food, drinks and catching up. And super nice to get a change of scenery.
Then at the tail end of August 2022 I headed closer to time but to Reading Festival for a day. The festival itself has changed a lot since I used to go but I was there to see my favs Bring Me The Horizon. After counting back it turns out to have been my 60th time seeing them live, and it was an amazing show. Especially when they brought Ed Sheeran out to perform their collab version of Bad Habits.
I have been entering the Today Tix weekly lottery for The Cursed Child theatre tickets for ages. And finally in August I got some. I have waiting so many years to see the show and it did not disappoint. Especially when I only paid £40 for both showings which was amazing value. The way they put together the production and the talent of the cast was incredible. If you’ve not seen it you really need to add it to your bucket list.
Right at the start of the month I dragged Luke along with me to see Christina Aguilera. I’m very fortunate to have seen a lot of live music, but Xtina had been on my bucket list for so long. The show itself was amazing, coupled with a really great set list. And I’m so happy to have finally seen her live.
Cineworld did a campaign throughout August where you could get treats and freebies the more you went with your unlimited card. And I didn’t need more of an excuse to go to the cinema. In the end I saw five movies in August 2022 starting with the DC League of Superpets which was just a really funny animated movie which me and Luke enjoyed.
We then saw Bullet Train which I loved more than I had expected to with a good mixture of action and comedy. I finally got round to seeing Where The Crawdads Sing which I did enjoy. Some people have said it was very slow paced, but I had fully expected that as the book is just like that. And I think they did such a good job translating the book to screen.
Near the end of the month I saw the unlimited screening of Bodies, Bodies, Bodies and I still don’t know what to make of it. It’s billed as a horror comedy which explains it quite well. But I didn’t quite get it all of the references as it’s very Gen Z focused but it was enjoyable.
Then I ended the month seeing Minions: The Rise of Gru which was everything I come to expect from Minions movies. It was fun and a bit silly, just what you need from movies sometimes.
Over the past few months I’ve watched a lot more TV than I used to. Each week over on my Instagram I do a TV and movies round up from my weeks watching, so head over there for more insights. But some TV stand outs during August 2022 are The Boys, Uncoupled, Woodstock 99, The Bold Type Season 5 and Only Murders In The Building Season 2.
I also watched a new Netflix movie called Look Both Ways which I really enjoyed. It goes to show whatever decision you make in your life journey you can still achieve your goals and ambitions.
Then book wise I read quite a lot but I finally got round to reading A Court of Thorns and Roses which I did really enjoy. I know a lot of people say this one isn’t as a good as it’s more world building and it gets even better. So I’m excited to see where the series goes. In total I read eight books in August including three comics and one audiobook, so a good mixture. Follow me on Goodreads and Insta for more book chat.
I’ve started to get thinking about Christmas both in terms of my blog gift guides, but also in terms of presents. Over the summer I worked with a lovely jewellery company called Lily Blanche. Created by Gillian and inspired by her grandmother Lily Blanche Sheridan the brand create beautiful pieces using only precious metals and real gemstones/ pearls in the pieces. The jewellery is made in a studio in Stirling alongside small teams of artisans in the UK and abroad depending on the specialist techniques needed. But everyone involved has a personal connection to Gillian which is so nice.
I love their birthstone jewellery and couldn’t resist picking up a few pieces to put aside as Christmas presents (thankfully the recipients won’t see this!) The birthstone necklace caught my eye initially so I ended up getting two different versions: a rose gold one with an emerald pendant, and a yellow gold Amethyst Charm Necklace. The pieces themselves are absolutely beautiful. One thing I love is that you can choose the length of the chain so you won’t be stuck with one ‘standard’ one.
We have ticked a few more things off from our wedding to do list during August 2022. Our invites have officially been sent out which is really exciting as I love getting through RSVPs. We also made a trip up to Leeds to see a jewellery designer for our wedding rings. So this is another thing ticked off the list.
I spoke last month about our front garden project which has progressed a little bit but not as much as we’d have liked. It’s just been too hot to work out there. But I have high hopes for September. But after having the paint for a whole year I finally painted our front door. I’m so happy with how it turned out, isn’t it beautiful?! Our door wasn’t in the best condition but we can’t justify buying a new one right now. But just painting it has given it a new lease of life and it will last for so much longer now.

I look forward to Christmas. It’s my favorite time of year because I get to see all of my loved ones. I really like the rose gold necklace with the emerald pendant. How can I get it? On second thought, perhaps I should wait to see if I am the lucky winner of the prize this Christmas.
I agree that this August is one of the warmest I can remember in a while. Even now we are in September (and even with a huge storm last night!), it’s actually quite sunny and warm in Cardiff today.
Our cinema had this offer on too which was amazing as we got to see so many movies.
Oh wow, congratulations on winning the Today’s Tix weekly lottery. I am still hoping to go see the Curse Child. I’m glad you liked it. Good to have knocked something off the bucket list too!
It’s so worth it if you’re able to get tickets x
It sounds like you have done quite a bit in August. I really enjoyed the heat and the warm weather. It was like a proper summer and I actually got a tan whilst in the UK, which I never had before.
I don’t think I spent enough time outside for that haha x
Looks like you have been busy and it is always nice to go and see a show. Ooo glad bullet train sounds good, as I am going to watch this xx
Your August was so busy. With both my kids off school it felt like I just about survived rather than achieved much 🙂
Haha, it must be quite nice now they’re back at school x
It sounds like you had a very busy August, I can not remember the last time I wore jeans or leggings but am getting them ready for the colder months. My husband watched The Boys and I loved Uncoupled
I am counting down the days until it’s cooler and I can wear them again x
August was insanely hot but it sounds like you still managed to fit loads in! My friend is Harry Potter obsessed so would love this I think and me and my kids loved Superpets too, my daughter found it particularly hilarious lol! Yay for sorting more stuff out for the wedding too, the big day will be here before you know it!
It was such a fun movie wasn’t it x
I hope you had an amazing time seeing the Cursed Child after waiting so long! I had no idea it was a raffle to get tickets. Lily Blanche are an absolutely fantastic brand aren’t they – the jewellery they make is beautiful.
You can buy tickets as normal, but there’s a raffle every week for cheaper tickets which is what I opted for x
I’m jealous you saw The Cursed Child… it’s still on my list!
