*This is a collaborative post on tips for betting when times are hard

With rising energy costs and food costs, it is no secret that households are being hit hard financially. This can and probably does impact your online betting funds, which can be frustrating as you can’t leverage betting sites promotions like you could a year ago.

That said, doing things you love is good for your mental health, and sacrificing everything good in your life to keep the lights on will eventually take its toll on you. So although some may argue that online play is frivolous the reality is that if it is what keeps you going it can only be a good thing.

As such, these tips will help you budget so the lights stay on, food is on the table and your mental health remains intact.

Tips for betting: Never Bet With Money You Need

Very important to remember is that you only use spare cash to bet. This leads us into a wider session budgeting and staking plan. So you determine that you are going to allocate £30 for your betting session, and your staking plan is going to be 2-5% of your session budget for each bet.

Once your session is over you walk away win or lose, never chasing losses as this will ruin you.

Bet on Sports and Matches You Know

If you’re faced with betting on teams you know nothing about, it is better to walk away or research the teams than bet blind. If you bet on a match where you know nothing about the squads, results, players and so on and so forth, then you are simply guessing which team will win.

Instead, bet on the games where you have conducted some analysis so you are in a better position to bet as you have some knowledge of the match.

Tips for betting: Don’t Take the Word of Tipsters

It is a mistake to take the word of a tipster as gospel truth. Instead, do your own analysis and when finished see what the tipster is saying. They may have an insight you’ve missed, and it is always interesting to get the opinion of others. Once you’ve decided which way to bet, always use your judgement and not the tipster. This can lead to bad things happening as tipsters often seem to change their mind at short notice.

Never be Influenced by Good or Bad Sessions

Bad sessions are a simple fact of sports betting and so are good ones. Whereas the bad sessions make us more cautious which isn’t a bad thing, good sessions can make us overconfident and take on riskier bets. This is not good as where there is more risk there is more chance of a negative outcome.

Keep calm and measured when betting and remember each new session can go either way.

Tips for betting: Don’t Get Emotional

Betting is an emotional experience, but it is important you keep calm when playing. It is easy to get angry, overconfident and bet on blind instinct rather than analysis.

Also, never play after an argument or if you feel angry. Go for a walk instead to get yourself back in the right groove.

Good luck.
