#AD- I was invited to Crete with Jet2 Holidays in exchange for this post, but all thoughts and opinions are my own
The Greek Isles hold a special place in my heart from the hot sunny summers to the beautiful cuisine. A few years ago I spent 5 days in South Crete with some friends, but I was able to head to Northern Crete with Luke. We used to head to the Greek Isles in the summer holidays when we were growing up and I remember it being so hot. But even in mid September it was really hot and such a great time to take a break.
Jet2 run flights to Crete and all across Greece and Europe.
It’s been quite a while since I last went on a package holiday abroad, usually I’d opt to book everything individually. But this trip reminded me of how great they are. Not only is everything included within the package from flights with checked in baggage allowance to transfers to your resort, but you also get peace of mind that a company is there if you need help.
From the moment we got to the airport in the UK right through to arriving back, the whole process was stress-free. Exactly what we wanted (and needed) from a 4 night/ 5 day trip.
Before this trip I’d never booked a couples holiday through Jet2holidays before, or flown via Jet2 and had no idea what to expect. They run holidays from London Stansted Airport and other airports around the UK including Birmingham, Edinburgh and Newcastle.
We had already checked in online, so despite arriving over 3 hours before our flight we were able to go to bag drop. This was such a relief as we could get rid of our checked luggage. And all bookings with Jet2 Holidays comes with a 22kg checked bag allowance per person. So you bet that even though we were only away for four days I packed as much as I could. A girl needs choices when it comes to outfits, and a supply of books.
On the day we left there was an air traffic strike in France so planes couldn’t go through French airspace, this meant that our flight was a few hours delayed and the airport was pretty busy. But nothing that can be done about that, it was just unfortunate timing.
Once we boarded the plane we were happy to find that the seats were reasonably spacious. Even Luke at 6 foot 2 wasn’t bumping his knees on the chair in front which made the 4 hour flight way more comfortable.
Something as simple as the airport transfer just made the whole trip so seamless. We arrived post midnight in Crete, we were tried and we just wanted to be at our hotel. Within 10 minutes of walking out of departures we were sat on a comfortable coach ready to head towards our hotel. And transfers come as standard within a Jet2 Holidays package.
You don’t have to go far to find Crete Hotels, there’s loads of choice around the island. For our trip we stayed in the Blue Sea Beach Affiliated By Melia from Jet2holidays and I’m so happy with our decision.
We had a few choices and opted for this one due to a few things: location (it was right on the beach front), package choices (it had half board and all inclusive) and the fact that it was 4 star plus rated accommodation. We ended up with half board which meant our breakfast was included, and our dinner at the buffet restaurant. But you can opt for all inclusive giving you lunch and the option to try the A La Carte restaurant. You can also pay a bit more for all inclusive plus for extras at some resorts. This may include ice cream, snacks and alcohol.
We had a superior room which was such a great size, and looked identical to the promotional photos. All of the rooms and accommodation are spread out so it didn’t feel crowded or busy. But it was still less than a minute to the pools, bar, and dining spaces.
Arriving so late on Friday evening we were left some wraps in our hotel room fridge in case we were hungry which was such a nice gesture. But the first dining experience we had was breakfast and it had everything you could want. All the components of a hot English breakfast, tick. Ten different types of bread, tick. Meats and cheeses, tick. Pastries, cakes and cookies, tick. Cereals, yoghurt and fruit, tick. The list goes on. So it’s safe to say we ate very well at breakfast every day and it lasted us right through to dinner time.
Now a dinner buffet is always something I’m apprehensive about, we’ve been to some particularly bad ones. Thankfully Blue Sea Beach wasn’t one of those. There’s a theme on each night from Pan Asian to Fish night. Although there were still plenty of generic dishes available every night.
Neither of us are crazy adventurous in our food, and Luke even less than me. But there was so much choice each evening that we ate so well.
When we were handed the little excursions book during our transfer my thoughts went to booking boat trips and days out exploring. But as we only had a few days we decided to do absolutely nothing.
From the minute we’d finished breakfast to early evening before dinner we relaxed around the pool. We sun bathed and got lovely tans in just three days (plus a little bit burnt). I finished four books during those days and listened to music and podcasts. And it was just what we both needed to relax and recharge from our busy lives.
We’ve already said that we want to make it a priority of ours to get away for a holiday like this every year that we can. And Jet2 Holidays go to so many places we can try them all.

I have heard a lot about Crete. Now you make me want to go there soon as possible. Our marriage anniversary is around the corner. I have been thinking of a place to go. Now, I have the perfect place in mind. Thank you for sharing these helpful hints.
This sounds idyllic. I love Greece too, but have never been to Crete. I like the fact you can book a short, four-day break there with Jet2 Holidays. That is definitely something I need to look into.
