he It’s coming up to the third anniversary of when we got the keys to our house which has gone so fast. We did so much work during the first six months, and although we’ve done some things since nothing in comparison. But I have some home plans for 2023 that I want to tick off and get the home into more of a ‘finished’ state. If a home can ever be classed as finished.
The majority of these things have either already been saved for/ paid. Or they’re minimal in cost which is great. So I’d love to get all of these things ticked off throughout the year.
Back in September 2021 our back gates that lead from the front garden/ side of our home to the back garden were totally broken and had to be removed. We paid a company almost £3,000 for replacements but ended up being scammed and had neither the gates or our money. We tried going through small claims who have not managed to help in any way.
So for 15 months we have not had gates as we couldn’t afford to spend that amount of money again. But finally we saved and have ordered and received the gates and fixings which Luke and his dad are going to fit themselves.
These should be done within a week or so of this post going live. So it will be one of the first home plans for 2023 to be ticked off the list.
My dad did an amazing job helping to sort out our tired front garden this year, but there are a few things that need to be finished off.
When the rain stops for long enough I need to finish painting a small section of the brick wall, but that won’t take more than a few minutes to do. Then we need to finish the slabs and slate around our front door as we bought new ones months ago and they’ve not yet been fitted.
Depending on the weather I’m hoping this will get done late winter/ early spring time.
Now this is the biggie in our home plans for 2023 and something that has been on the cards ever since we moved in. But 2023 is going to be the year to finish the garage renovation. We get married in May and I have said that I want this done before then so fingers crossed.
Luke and his dad made a start on creating the flooring and it’s about 30% done so that needs finishing. Then the ceiling and walls need to put in plus some insulation.. Once this is done Luke can sort out the electrics throughout the space. Then he can also add the heater/ air con to his office space.
Once that’s done it will be a case of adding flooring (carpet in Luke’s office and tiling in the utility), then painting and decorating. And finally building the utility room cupboards and workspace.
This is the project I am most excited for as I am a little sick of having boxes of Luke’s stuff all around the upstairs of our house. And I want a nice utility space.
Once the garage renovation is complete there are a bunch of things that can then be completed around the house.
The third bedroom can be properly finished once Luke’s desk and books are out of there. So my Peloton Bike is going to move into this space. And I have some vinyls that need to be put up on the wall. And what’s even more amazing is that I’ll have extra bookshelf space up there.
Then our second bedroom can be properly organised, and used much more as a guest space as there won’t be boxes piled everywhere else.
Then finally the chair in our living room can go, hooray. And Luke’s gaming chair can come out of my office to make space for a plant stand and a bit more organisation there.
All of this can be done as soon as the garage is done and is more cleaning and organisation based. So very much in my wheel house.
There are a few more things we’re hoping to get done in 2023.
I’m in the final stages of saving for a new back door and window which will be really nice. Currently our back door opens inwards, and we’re looking to change that which will make a big difference. We’re going for a very similar colour frame as what we have now, (you’d only notice a difference up close). And slowly over time the rest of the windows in our house will be changed to match.
Another thing I want to save money for are new ceiling lights for our living rooms. The current lights were a quick decision and I’ve never been happy with them as they’re pretty dark and not big enough for the space. We already know which ones we want to buy so it’s just a case of buying them.
Then the final thing is finishing replacing the garden fences in our back garden. I have replacements for all the ones not done but it’s just been too wet to get them painted. So they’ve just been sat in our back garden for the past month.

You will have a busy 2023. We’re redoing the kitchen, that is our main plan for now…
Oh that’s an exciting project x
It sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate for the upcoming year. I can’t wait to see how it all goes!
Renovating your home can cost heaps of money depending on what you still need to do. It took us a few years too.
I have a lot of plans as well! Can’t wait to get started with ours!
Well your home is beautiful so I am sure once all the renovations are done it’ll all look so nice! It’s a big year ahead but so exciting too!
Even we are getting a new beautiful home in 2023. So many things to do before shifting and can’t wait to live there. All the best to you too for your new home.
Its so wonderful to see your house turning into a home as you want it to be. Lots of great ideas here. I have a few listed as well to complete in 2023
I just need to learn to be more patient with getting things done x
It does take time to get everything done, and there is always something that needs to be done. Sounds like you have a busy 2023 planned
Sadly patience isn’t my strong suit haha x
You have ambitious plans for 2023! We are planning to have our deck rebuilt this year starting next month! Houses are a never ending project! Good luck with yours!

They really are never ending, as soon as you think you’re done something else pops up x
There are always things to renevate in your house. It’s a never ending story, you are never done
I always wondered why people would install doors that go in. Our front door is like that and it’s impossible to get furniture through it. Good luck with your renovations!
It did make it very tough bringing things in so we had to use our patio doors to do some things which was annoying x
Sounds like you have a lot to get done this year! We have just dug out our front garden (in winter, I know) and plan on getting flowers put in there this year! It is so fun to have projects to look forward too.
Our was only finished in Winter, so I know your pain. The foxes and badgers loved it though haha x
So exciting! Your house plans sound fab, and a solid plan, plan. I can imagine the garage space will look so big once it’s all done. Are you using it for storage/work?
Totally feel you, I did loads to my house when I first moved in but there is still a lot that needs to be done, but I need a proper budget and plan. Sounds like your plan for the year is doable and I hope you. manage to get everything finished
Laura x
So important to think how much you have done, but I have no patience haha x
