*This is a collaborative post on ways to help kids study online
For my generation we had computers but we didn’t really use them to help study. It was more about the massive Encarta disks and typing up essays as we got a bit older. But today we do everything online including kids who use the internet for studying. And the past few years has only accelerated the need for e-learning.
The pandemic forced more kids to go online for their learning as schools was closed or people had to isolate. And even now schools are back open kids are spending a lot of time siting in front of a computer. As someone who doesn’t have kids I did’t have to tackle the home schooling but everyone I spoke to said how hard that period was, especially for those still working themselves. As a parent how can you support your children when they study online?
Having the right tools for your child to study online is so important to make sure their time is used well.
For just $2.99 you can get a year’s subscription to Creative Fabrica that has thousands of teachers’ materials, prepared by teachers. The subscription gives access to more than 10 thousand digital teaching resources so no matter what they’re studying for there’s support and help online. You can download up to 5 digital downloads each week, and 260 per year.
The brand believe that everyone should be able to access high quality education and want to give teachers the best tools to teach their students.
And what’s even better is that 100% of the profits are paid out to teachers themselves.
I get distracted quite easily so I can’t imagine how kids feel, especially if they really don’t want to be doing school work or studying.
It’s important have a dedicated space set up for kids to study online and do all of their work. By doing this they’ll get into the habit that when they’re in that space it’s to do work. It doesn’t need to be a dedicated office if you don’t have the space. It could be the kitchen table, or anywhere that you can set up for them to work. But make sure to ask your child what kind of atmosphere works best for them as some may prefer silence, and others may prefer light music.
When they’re online you should turn off notifications (if there’s an option) so they’re not getting distractions when using the computer.
E-learning can be a huge help for kids, but they may still face issues in subjects they don’t understand so don’t be afraid to ask for help. As a parent you can’t be expected to help your kids with every question they have when studying, especially as they get older and subjects get harder.
Tutors can make a massive difference in supporting your child with their studying as they’ll get one-on-one attention. And they’ll be supported through practice questions and tests to check their understanding.
Like you would with any type of study, provide positive encouragement and feedback when they study online.
Doing school work or studying after you’ve spent a whole day or week at school isn’t fun. And kids deserved to be praised for this. As an adult I sometimes give myself a treat for getting lots of tasks done. This could work for kids as well. It might be a sweet treat or being able to watch some TV once they’ve finished their work.
When I’m doing a task at work I tend to hit a blocker after a few hours. My mind wanders, or my brain gets stuck and it just needs a break. The same is true for kids.
Once your kid is doing their online study or activities make sure to get them tot take short breaks. This is especially important during exam time when they may be studying for long periods. During a school day they have a break-time, lunchtime and short breaks between classes, so the same should happen at home.
For anyone sitting in front of a computer or laptop for long hours isn’t good for your eyes. So encourage them to take a break from looking at a screen, maybe even get some fresh air.

Great tips, thank you so much…The kids definitely need support, the change was too quick for them to adapt to it. But as you said, there are not a lot of tools that can help ease the process.
It must have been strange suddenly pushing them into home learning x
These are excellent tips. Remote learning or even online homework can be so hard because everything that the kids love is right there!
Ha, yes eliminating distractions isn’t as easy as one might cope. I have tried but everything seems to distract. It helps when I sit them near me I find.
I need to do that when I’m working too, I get distracted too easily x
Eliminating distrcations is helps a lot. I like to set the kid’s room and remove distractions as much as possible when they study. Turning off the notifications and block ads.
This is such a great resource, giving our children the help and support is vital and makes their learning experience less stressful and easier to learn
So true x
It is great that kids can study online. Mine often have maths tasks to do. It is best to do it in a room where there are minimal distractions for sure
Most of our studies were in physical visits to libraries. We often take our children to the libraries (of our alma mater) also and they love the experience. Weird, I know.
Such a good idea, more of a learning environment x
I do have to limit distractions to study online. Social media is what usually gets to me.
Same here, I’m so easily distracted x
These are all really good tips and yes to keeping distractions at a minimum and asking for help when it’s needed

Very useful tips for parents here. Online study should be like a fun, not a forced act for children.
These are some great tips for helping kids study online. We experienced remote learning during lockdown and it was tough going at times.
I can’t imagine how tough it must have been x
It was a learning curve for us with the kids moving online but we did it with the help of a bunch of tool and as you said, giving the kids frequent breaks…
Absolutely appreciate your tips sharing here as kids nowadays since the pandemic really study online a lot more comparatively. Useful informative. Cheers Siennylovesdrawing
Fab ways the girls love doing online learning and defo helps to stop all distractions 🙂
