Four Ways To Maximise Bedroom Storage

Sloping ceiling wardrobe

*This is a collaborative post on ways to maximise bedroom storage but all thoughts and words are my own

I absolutely love our house, and I feel very thankful that we have this space. But it doesn’t stop me from browsing Right Move and working out what we’d do if we won the lottery. Doesn’t everyone do that?! And the biggest thing on my wish list is a larger bedroom and/or a designated dressing room. I dream of a day when I don’t have to skirt around our bed and having masses of room to dance around. But that isn’t a reality as we have too much stuff.

If you’re in the same boat as me and just need a bit more space there are some hacks to maximise bedroom storage.

Maximise space if you have sloped ceilings

If your room is in an attic conversion or another room with sloped ceilings you may feel like you’re wasting precious space. But you can maximise all the space you have with a sloping ceiling fitted wardrobe. Not only do they use up all the space, but they look seamless and you may even forget they’re sloping.

With the right angled fitted furniture you can make the most of the space you have. This could turn unused space into something truly functional. As the wardrobes would be bespoke made for your space you can choose the shelves, drawers or hanging space to make it work best for you.

Get an ottoman bed to maximise bedroom storage

One of the best things we ever did was get an ottoman bed. Yes you can put boxes and drawers under a regular bed, but you’re limited to the frame height. When I say we have loads of storage under our bed I am not exaggerating. There’s so much we’re not even using all of it properly.

In our bedroom we have things under our bed that we use such as spare bedding and towels. But it’s also home to summer shoes, clothes I don’t wear but want to keep and various things we don’t need out, but want access to.

DIY shelves in master bedroom

Maximise bedroom storage with shelves

Rooms can look cramped if you have too much furniture in it. But to maximise bedroom storage opt for some shelves that don’t take away floor space, but add functional storage.

We have an alcove in our bedroom that could have been slightly dead space, or under utilised, but Luke built shelves in it (as you can see above). When he added them in I suddenly have all of those storage space which I use every single day. Mine does look quite busy, but it would be easy enough to add boxes there so you don’t see everything.

Hang things on the wall

Following on from having shelves on the way, maximise bedroom storage by hanging bulky things to free up space. You could hang some hooks for your handbags, or hats. Perhaps you need some space for your jewellery and don’t have space for a proper jewellery box.

Anything that you can hang up can free up precious storage space. And you can turn it into a design idea choosing things that look fun or funky.

It can be difficult to figure out the best way to maximise a space. But underbed storage has to be something that helps with this. We do have some drawers under our which is great for extra sheets. But also makes a great place for hiding presents for birthdays and Xmas.

My husband built us a huge wardrobe with sliding doors so everything is out of sight and makes our bedroom so uncluttered.

I would love something with sliding doors as some of our doors are hard to open due to the space they’re in x
