Usually I find that January drags and feels way longer than a single month. But January 2023 flew by, and I have no idea how we’re already in the second month of the year.
It has been a very cold month and I’m hiding my head in the sand when it comes to our gas bill. We’re due to have two months off council tax and I’m just going to have to dump that money to our energy provider.
One of the things that stops January being so depressing to me is my birthday. It’s always an excuse to meet friends and go out for loads of different meals. And I did just that in January 2023.
I was very lucky to have a Saturday birthday this year, so I didn’t need to work or book the time off. The week started with a meal with my friend at a new Greek mezze place that was yummy. As Luke was working my birthday weekend we headed to my parents on my actual birthday and we had a Lebanese takeaway. It’s probably obvious what my my favourite food is.
The day after my birthday I had breakfast with two of my friends and it was nice to see them over the weekend. And they got up pretty early just to see me. I had treated myself to a tattoo booking then and finally got two Nightmare before Christmas tattoos that were well overdue. And the weekend ended with a nice takeaway and movie with Luke.
Our wedding is fast approaching, and we’re now three and a half months out. During January 2023 we managed to tick off a bunch of things that I’m so happy about.
I had my hair and makeup trials during the month and I’m so happy with the way both turned out. My wedding dress arrived at the boutique so I got to try it on and my parents are now storing it before my fitting at the end of March.
We had a call with our band to chat over the music choices and the day in general, and I am so excited to hear them play.
And the final big thing we ticked off was booking our official honeymoon. We’re heading on a mini-moon to Scotland on the Monday after our wedding, but we’re doing the main trip the following January. We’re heading back to a Sandals resort, but this time going to Jamaica, and being a bit more bouje.
I ticked off a massive bucket list event and headed to the Peloton studio in London for a live class. Not only was it a live class but it was with my favourite instructor Bradley, and was my favourite genre, pop-punk. I met up with a girl from one of the Peloton Facebook groups I’m in and I had such an amazing time. I was on such a high throughout and I achieved my best workout performance. Definitely something I want to treat myself to every six months or so.
After finished the book ‘A man called Ove’ I headed to the cinema to see the adaptation ‘A man called Otto’. Tom Hanks did such a great job playing the character, and I genuinely think they did the book real justice. It is a pretty sad story, but really heartwarming at the same time.
It was was second month joining a book club chat and this month we spoke about ‘The rose code’ which is a chonky historical fiction book. I really enjoyed the book and it’s definitely not something I would have chosen to read outside of the book club.
Luke has been working a lot of weekends, so we’ve only ticked off a few home based projects.
The biggest thing was that Luke and his dad put up our brand new back gates. After a year and four months with no back gates they’re finally in and they look so good. Plus our back garden and home are finally secure.
My parents came around one weekend and my dad spent a day cementing our new slabs down outside our front door. So our front garden is so close to being finished. Just one more day should be enough.
The final thing we ticked off was getting some new lights for our living room. We struggled to find ones we loved (and could afford) when we first renovated. The ones we had were quite small and not particularly strong, but our new ones are just perfect.
