Get a job, save some money, buy a house and live the dream. For most of us we’re taught that all you need to do is get a job and all the other things will follow. A nice car, a house, a sustainable future. If only saving money was as simple. Expectations vs reality are very different when it comes to money.
When we all thought about our future when we were younger chances are we didn’t factor in complications with money, how hard a mortgage might be to get or that living paycheck to paycheck is a real possibility.
The gap between expectations and reality when it comes to money can be vast and I’m going to talk over some of the most common ones.
The expectations vs reality for investing can be quite a minefield as you never know what’s going to happen with an investment. But those with expectations that investing is a quick game will be sorely disappointed.
Investing can help grow your wealth, but it doesn’t happen overnight. In fact it can take years and years to make any real difference. And investing is never guaranteed to be fruitful as you don’t have complete control. You can control how much you invest, what you invest in and how much risk you put in. But how it performs after you invest is outside of your hands.
This one is both true and false all at once. A lot of us will think that the more expensive version of something is better. And this can be true some of the time for example in clothing fast fashion is cheaper and it’s generally lower quality. Whereas a more expensive item may be of higher quality. But this isn’t always the case.
For certain items you don’t need to spend lots of money to get a positive outcome. This is especially so when it comes to experiences.
An item or experience can be expensive but if it brings you happiness and enhances your life it can be worth it.
When I was younger I used to think that saving money was easy. I just chose to not do it all that often. But as I’ve gotten older and responsibilities in life have changed I’ve realised that saving money isn’t as easy as I thought.
In the current financial climate it’s especially hard to save as costs are rising. We’re having to spend more on our bills, food and other items. So putting away hundreds of pounds a month into savings isn’t always easy.
The reality is we’re all having to tighten our purse strings a lot and reevaluate our budgets and finances to focus on the necessary and not the nice to have’s.
You’re so right, it is not that easy to save money especially with the rising costs of everything…
Mine is when it comes to investing. Unfortunately, the gap between expectation vs reality when investing is often vast.
I always thought Investing will amke you rich fast but nah, it`s not that easy.
If only it was that easy, but if it was everyone would be doing it x
Money Matters Unveiled! It’s true, the path to financial stability isn’t always as straightforward as we once thought. The gap between expectations and reality can be eye-opening. Investing, for instance, might not bring quick riches, but understanding the journey is key. Let’s embrace the learning curve and navigate our financial dreams with wisdom.
I agree 100%. When I was starting to work I thought that investing would make me rich. But, No there’s no easy way to success.
I think another thing people don’t think is to save on little things. Like to save a couple dollars here and there — but it really does make a difference.
Very true, every penny adds up x
I agree with all this. Especially with fast fashion. I know there are moral reasons behind fast fashion being bad when it comes to certain brands but those brands are actually big names like Nike and they aren’t exactly ‘cheap’ either. So you have to really know what your buying and where to cut corners. Great post!
Yeah you have to weigh up all the options. You’re so right there are plenty of brands that aren’t cheap but are still made in the same places from an ethical POV x
Your insights on financial expectations versus reality are thought-provoking. It’s true, investing requires patience and isn’t a fast-track to wealth. Price doesn’t always equate to value, especially in experiences. Your reminder that happiness can outweigh cost is valuable. Saving isn’t easy amidst rising expenses, indeed a pertinent reality check.
Saving money is very difficult, especially at this time. I am lucky that I do have a savings account, but I have had to be very discaplined.
I’ve purchased very expensive things that were garbage. And I’ve purchased very expensive things that were worth the price. You’re right, it really all just depends.
Rhian, what a beautiful, powerful reminder that along the savings we need to take courage to learn how to invest. Awesome post!
I usually believe in savings but I think I should also start investing but heard it’s not that easy.
