I am very much a goal setting girl. I love planning out what I want to achieve and making plans to get there. Plus ticking off a list is so satisfying. Last year our goals were focused on our home, my career and our wedding which happened in May. But now it’s time to think about my goals for 2024.
I have split my goals into home, finances and other because the first two cover most of what I want to achieve over the coming year. I am trying to be realistic though and not put too much pressure on myself (and Luke).
Here’s my list of goals for 2024.
We did pretty well with our plans for 2023, but there is one big one which has rolled over. I’ve said this quite a few years now but 2024 is the year our garage renovation will be completed. We don’t have much left to do on Luke’s office realistically. Next up it’s wallpapering, carpeting and then fixing the electrics in. Then it’s finishing touches like fixing the skirting board and architrave, fitting the door and building the furniture. Once we’re back from our honeymoon in mid Feb we’ll be making a start on the utility side which shouldn’t take as long as Luke’s room, but we’ll see.
The other big thing I’d like to do in our home during 2024 is to replace our fireplace for an electric one. As we have solar we want to switch out some gas things for electric. And having an electric fireplace will mean we won’t have to use our radiators as much downstairs. The job shouldn’t take more than a few days, but it will be quite a messy one.
I’ve had a small snagging list for a few months now, mainly small bits of filling, touching up paint etc. And a lot of the list are things I can do myself. So one of my goals for 2024 is to get through the list and tick off a lot more of the smaller jobs.
I made a start on this near the end of 2023 and made good progress. And these are things that will make such a difference.
Last year was a pretty mixed year when it came to our financial goals, I’ve done a whole post reflecting on them. But thinking ahead to 2024 there are some things I really want to achieve.
Three of our financial goals for 2024 are savings based. The first one is just to fully fund our cruise pot ahead of going in September. I don’t want to put anything on our credit card when it comes to the trip, spending money etc. Ever since we booked at the end of 2022 I’ve had a month-by-month savings plan and we’re currently on track.
The next savings goal relates to our garage renovation and that’s to fully pay this off. Some of this will be paying back some bits on our credit card, but by the summer I’d love to have this fully paid off.
Then finally I want to increase our emergency fund by £1,500. We have a small emergency fund, but with the cost of living going up I want to flesh out what we have saved. This will be an automatic payment after our honeymoon so there will be no excuses.
Then for debt I want to pay down our solar loan by at least £4,000. We’ve done well so far considering we had a wedding and honeymoon to pay for, but now it’s time to crank it up a notch. If we complete this then we’ll only have £4,000 left to pay off the following year.
Investment wise 2024 is the year of the LISA. Luke needs to open a LISA and then I want to put in a minimum of £800 into each of our accounts. I’d love to be able to max them out but I need to be realistic.
From a personal perspective I want to continue with the changes to my eating habits. I started off well over the end of 2023 and have made some fundamental habitual changes, but with Christmas and our honeymoon coming up it’s going to be February onwards when it gets more serious. While I have a numbers goal in mind I just want to look and feel better in myself.
The final goal for 2024 is sorting out Luke’s work vehicle. When he got his current van it was a quick decision as he needed something and in hindsight isn’t what he’d have done. We’ve got a plan in place to sell his van and swap into a different vehicle so I’m hoping this is something we can do in 2024.
Goal setting is so important, and you’ve really got yours dialed in. Good luck!
My biggest goal for the year is to start saving more. We’ve opened a high-yield savings account, and we’re hoping to start adding money to it monthly.
That’s such a great goal to have, good luck working towards it x
I love having a list to tick off too. It really does feel satisfying when you achieve goals. Good luck with the garage renovation and the cruise savings. Sounds like that will be wonderful.
It sounds like you have some great goals for 2024, I have lists of things I want to change and do, which I hope I can tick everything off
You just reminded me to set some goals for the new year. I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions, but do think it’s good to set realistic goals. Going to make my list now.
Good luck with creating your list x
Setting goals is very important for me. When I first started to set the goal I felt like I’m more eager to do it and achieve my goal, especially on my money goal.
I just think it feels more satisfying to tick a goal off that you set x
Good luck meeting your goals. I’m glad you’ve got a plan and steps in place to help you get there.
Your garage renovation plan sounds exciting, and kudos on the switch to electric for a greener home.
Your goal-setting approach is truly inspiring! Congratulations on achieving your 2023 goals, including the wedding – that’s wonderful! Your detailed goals for 2024, especially the garage renovation and switching to an electric fireplace, sound exciting. I appreciate the realistic approach, and I’m eager to follow your journey through the home-based goals. Wishing you a fantastic year ahead filled with successful achievements!
It sounds like you have some pretty great goals planned out, I hope you can do all of them this year!
Thanks, me too x
You have set some good goals for 2024. I have a few financial goals too, but I need to write them down!
It sounds like you are very organised when it comes to your finances. I hope that you manage to pay off the £4000 solar loan. It will help to have less debt to worry about over the coming year.
Same here, I hate owing money. We are very lucky that it was a loan from my nan so no interest, but still I hate it looming over us x
It’s important to set goals and have things to work towards. I’m excited to hear about it all in the months ahead. I know you’ll smash it!
Thanks, I hope so too x
I find it so hard to actually stick to dietary goals! In 2024, we are doing a lot of saving / cutting back, which is always a big challenge.
Yeah dietary goals are hard, but I had some great progress Oct/ Nov last year so want to get back to that (after my holiday that is) x
Loving your goals and the biggest thing that stands out to me is saving….as it is so hard these days to save anything as everything keeps going up. My car insurance jumped $20 a month and I have a stellar driving record….. so not sure why other than they have to charge more because everything costs more just like for me. I hope we have good change this year…. fingers crossed! Anything is better than what we have now and working harder to make more so that I can save too!
Yes that’s exactly why everyone’s premiums are going up. It’s costing insurance companies more to pay out to repair/ replace so they need a bigger pot to begin with. So everyone has to pay in more even if we didn’t claim. Which is a shame but makes sense x
I love setting goals too, it is so satisfying being able to tick them off.
It is so important to set goals to save up money. I have also planned few things this year to save up money.
