Is Your Home Working As Efficiently As It Should Be?

*This is a collaborative post about is your home working as efficiently as it should be?

An efficient home is the best place to live. And before we go any further, it’s not just energy efficiency we’re talking about here! Indeed, there could be a whole host of things that are not working quite right in your home.

You need to head round and double check for problems like these at least twice a year, to ensure that your home isn’t slowly breaking down around you without you even realising. And trust us, properties can be a bit more fragile than anyone ever expects them to be!

How strong is your roof and guttering?

Your roof and guttering has to deal with a lot of weather over the course of 12 months. Rain is going to be the worst of this, of course, but high winds can dislodge a lot too. Because of this, whenever there’s a storm in the making outside, double check the state of your roof and guttering.

You don’t want any tiles flying off, nor do you want sections of piping to be hanging off your eaves. Everything needs to be just as well connected or applied as it was the night before, and you can test this even just by giving things a tap and wiggle.

You should also make sure you clear out the beginning of any debris build-ups whilst you’re up there. For replacements or upgrades, you can look into products from Metal Roofing Online – COLORBOND® Guttering Supplier or similar suppliers, which offer durable quad guttering options designed to withstand tough Australian weather conditions and maintain both function and appearance over time.

How old is your heating system?

How do you heat your home? Most people have a boiler, some have a furnace, some have a combination, others have invested in an air source heat pump to use renewable energy, and some have installed under floor heating that ensures they rarely have to turn the radiators on.

But no matter how you’re heating your home, you’ll need to check that the system is efficient and effective. Get it serviced at least once a year, and listen out for things like bumps and bangs or pipes that have gotten rusty or changed in shape.

Plus, the moment you suspect something may be up with the way your heating works, make sure you call out a professional to get it seen to.

Are there signs of water damage?

Water damage is the most pervasive thing your home can be subjected to. If you see signs, it’s important to suss out where the leak is as soon as possible.

You need to know if there’s a leak in the roof, a burst pipe somewhere, or an overflow of water. Don’t leave the problem to chance or believe it’ll dry up on its own! Before you investigate, however, make sure you turn the water source off beforehand.

Water damage can be as small as a little patch of damp in the corner of a room to something widespread like black mold all over the bathroom. Whilst one looks worse than the other, both can make your home ten times weaker.

An efficiently working home will always feel peaceful. Whip round with a checklist to assess potential issues like these.
