2024 has been a busy year for us, and I can’t believe we’re in the final month. Luke has worked his absolute socks off to get as much done in our house (with me doing as much as my abilities allow!)
While there’s still so much more I’d like to have done I’m happy with the progress we’ve made.
Here are some of the home updates we’ve done in the past six months.
That’s right our utility room is 90% finished now. The bits left to do are more finishing touching and the building of one cabinet. But overall the room itself is done and I’m so happy.
This has been a project we first thought about when we moved in four and a half years ago. And it’s been a work in progress for almost two years now. I finally have a nice clean place to do the washing (and not in a dusty garage). But I also have space to keep all our cleaning products together, overspill stuff from our kitchen and so much more.
I’ll do a separate post all about the project, but I couldn’t do a home updates post and not talk about it.
We’ve never had blackout curtains in our third bedroom. The ones we had in there were just cheap ones we picked up when we moved in. And while our third bedroom isn’t used as a bedroom I did want to get these updated. And All The Home happened to reach out at just the right time.
We opted for the green velvet blackout curtains* and they make such an impact in the room. The dark green contrasts really well from the white walls, and because they’re eyelet fittings they just slide straight onto the curtain pole in seconds.
I currently use this room for working out so it’s nice to have blackout ones as they help regulate the temperature. They’re designed to reduce energy loss and help save money on your bills. This means they keep the heat out in the summer (win win when you’re doing cardio!) and they keep the heat in during the winter.

Now the longer term dream (which will happen one day) is to have a proper library with floor to ceiling bookcases, but we’re not quite there yet. But I do now own a physical library (anything 1,000 books+) and I needed some more storage for them.
Some of my read books are away in boxes, ready for when they can be displayed again. But my TBR is out of control so I needed space. Luke created some additional shelves in our second bedroom to house some of them. When people come and stay they will be surrounded by books which can be a lot. But for me this would be a dream!
You have done so much since moving in and I have loved your updates. I am very jealous of your utility room and this is something I hope to have in the future
oh wow, you’ve done a lot, this is amazing…We painted the main door last week and can’t be more excited about it.
I’m so happy to hear your utility room is all done. It must be so nice to have it finally finished.
Thanks. It’s already made such a difference x
Aren’t updates to a home fun! They just make you smile when you do them.
It feels so good to make progress on updating the home. We always have little projects on the go here too. I love the look of those blackout curtains – I may look at getting some of those.
It really does feel good to tick things off x
Blackout curtains are 100% the way to go when buying curtains for the house. I have them myself and they are great. These updates are always so rewarding to see when finished, yours look great!
These are all great projects to have completed and I am so loving those green velvet black out curtains! They look like high quality that is for sure and green is my favorite color. they look incredible and I need to invest in black out curtains!
They’re so good for the price, esp for blackout x
We did some updates during covid and loved it all. I do would love to have a library with floor to ceiling bookcases. Both the hubs and I love to read. Good luck on yours!
Thanks, I hope I don’t have to wait too long for mine haha x
I like the color of those velvet curtains! Having a library is a fantastic goal – what great progress you’ve made on your home.
I would love a utility room so the washing machine could be separate from the kitchen.
It really makes a huge difference not having to hear it going all the time x
