It’s a brand new year which means I’ve been goal setting for the year ahead. I love planning out what I want to achieve for the year ahead, even if it doesn’t always go to plan. For me my home and money goals for 2025 are the biggest ones I’m looking to focus on as I’m pretty happy with where some other areas of my life are at.
For 2025 I’m trying to be as realistic as possible. Time goes way too quickly and it’s not going to be possible to do absolutely everything in one go.
Here are my home and money goals for 2025.
We got to a really good point by the end of 2024 with our utility and I’d say it’s 90% complete. The space is exactly what I wanted (and need) but it just needs some finishing touches.
There’s one more day of work for Luke and his dad to finish building out one of our bespoke cabinets. Then there’s just some small bits like a little skirting/ coving etc. I’m hoping we can get this finished in the first two months of 2025 so I can officially tick it off.
Our next big project is our garden log cabin. We’d planned this for a while and early 2025 is finally the time. We have the actual cabin turning up near the end of January and I’m hoping by the end of February the bulk of the space will be finished.
We’re turning the space into two rooms. One to be a combined workout/ photo area for me. So my bike and weights will move out there along with my lights and bits for when I take blog photos. Then the other half will turn into a gaming space for Luke and storage for his miniatures/ models.
I’m so excited about this project as I can’t wait to have a proper workout space.
We ordered our fireplace in the Black Friday sales and I’m itching to get it installed, but the room will need some building/ work done to it.
I had hoped to get this project done before the super cold months coming up, but it’s likely to be an early Spring project. But it means we’ll be in a great position to heat the downstairs of our home via electricity and not rely on gas.
This is one of this projects that’s 100% going to happen as it’s not relying on our time or energy. We’re slowly replacing the windows in our home and it’s time for the upstairs back windows. This includes our en-suite, bathroom and third bedroom.
The en-suite used to be a bedroom so has normal windows in it. So when we moved in we stuck on opaque window film, and I’m so excited to have this replaced. And our third bedroom window has been damaged ever since we moved in, so again it’s going to be nice to have this looking good.
Then it will be back to saving to get our front windows done, but that will be 2026 and onwards.
We’ve done pretty well with savings over the past couple of years so I want to start a new sinking pot to help with anything that comes up over the year. The hope will be to add £5,000 to this pot by the summer so we have it in hand.
We have our emergency fund saved in capital bonds so there are no temptations to spend it. And I want to increase that fund by at least £1,000 over 2025. Eventually I’d like to get the pot to around £7,500 but that will be a gradual process over the next few years.
We made great progress paying off our solar loan in 2024 after all our honeymoon/ cruise stuff was paid off. In an ideal world I’d like to clear the whole loan which is just under £4,000. But at worse I’d like to get the figure to under £2,000. Knowing what we paid last year (alongside lots of other savings), I think this is completely possible, but we’ll see what happens.
Amazing goals, I hope you achieve all of them. Our home goal is to finish our basement this year. We can’t wait to do it.
We need to start replacing our windows. They’re all pretty much shot, but it’s too expensive to do them all at once!
You’re so right. We had one big one with a door in our kitchen/ diner done a while back and we’re going to have to split them out in order to be able to afford them x
We just finished finally replacing all our windows, and it’s made such a difference for our energy bill and comfort.
You’ve been doing so well with your financial goals. We’ve been trying our best to set and achieve a few, as well, and so far, it’s going pretty good!
I do love your posts as they really do inspire me to get things done at my home. We did quite well in 2024 with a list of things we want to do this year as well
That makes me happy that they’re inspiring you! 🙂 x
Your 2025 goals are inspiring! The garden log cabin sounds like such a versatile space—I love the idea of a combined workout/photo area and a gaming room. Finishing the utility renovation and tackling the solar loan will be so satisfying. Thanks for sharing, and best of luck achieving your goals!
It’s going to make such a difference to have the extra space in the main house x
Love how you’re approaching your goals with a realistic mindset! Focusing on your home and money goals sounds like a great way to make meaningful progress.
That’s a nice home and money goals you have set for this year. This makes me too to set a goal to save up money. In 2024 I couldn’t save much this year I need to set goals.
I need to really start planning my retirement this year. We also would like to move out of Seattle soon!
I too need to create my home and money related goals. Yours look awesome, and thanks for the inspiration!
I have never really heard of a garden cabin before! Sounds like a very big project.
It looks like a big project but hubbie seems convinced it’s not that big, so fingers crossed x
Here’s hoping and wishing you meet all your goals for this year. My home goal is for us to move to a newer home. Keeping my fingers crossed!
These are some great goals to have, very inspirational! An emergency fund is also something on my goal list as its something I prefer to have and not need versus the other way around.
Exactly that, I’d rather have it just in case x
I love setting goals for our home, we definitely need to paint our downstairs this year.
I hope you manage to achieve this x
