*This is a collaborative post on tips for decluttering your house

You’re moving house or you’re just looking for that early in the year spring clean. You need to think about how you can declutter your spaces room to room. You can guarantee that over the course of the winter season, you’ve probably accumulated some items that don’t have a home. When this level of clutter builds up, it can feel like a problem because no, not only does it make you feel stressed out, but everything is just in the way. You could be decluttering all of your things and making space for new things for the season, but unless you hire a skip, you are going to have a problem with all of the clutter that’s scattered around your house. So you need to declutter your space as best you can, ready for the spring clean of the year.

Let’s take a look at some top tips for decluttering your house so that you can get it back into some kind of order.

Look for the areas for decluttering your house

Before you hire a skip, you need to figure out whether you’re decluttering a room or decluttering the whole house. You don’t really need to get a whole skip just for one small area. So if it is the whole house, go ahead and write down every room and space that you need to declutter. Then you can determine what size of a skip you need so that you can have space for everything you can get rid of.

Put a list of priorities together

Starting with the most frustrating and hard to clean area, you need to put down a list of priorities. It’s OK if you need to break down the rooms and areas into different lists. For example, the main bedroom might be on your list, but then you have to break it into a closet or en suite. Prioritising everything will help you to move from room to room and feel like you’re getting somewhere.

Rule of three when decluttering your home

Having three containers as you declutter room to room is going to really help you out. You want one for the trash, one for a donation box, and one that you want to keep but you need to find a home for. For example, if you have things in the kitchen that really should be in the living room, or things in the bathroom that should be in the bedroom, these are the things that go in the third box.

Set a timer

Often it’s hard to keep your head straight and keep concentrating on what you’re doing. When you declutter, it’s very easy to get distracted or put things down and just go and do something else. If you’ll set yourself a timer, even just 15 minutes, then you can decide whether or not you’re finished or you’ll have the energy to keep going, and then you can set another 15 minutes. Doing this allows you to feel like you have a deadline and something to rush against, and that can help you to stay focused on the task at hand.
