Where To Stay In Blackpool To Avoid The Tacky Seafront

Blackpool Hotel

Over the August bank holiday weekend, I headed up North to Blackpool to combine seeing the city with Livewire Festival where I caught Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

As soon as I knew I would be heading up north I jumped online to look at hotels and where to stay in Blackpool and I’m going, to be honest, I wasn’t filled with a lot of hope. If you’ve ever been to Blackpool you know there’s a lot of B&B’s and hotels along the seafront on the High Street close to the amusement parks and piers, but most of these could be seen as a bit tacky and dated. We saw them range from £40 per person a night right down to £18. I whacked on some search parameters on Booking.com and decided that the only way to get a nice hotel was to go further along the seafront and away from the piers and arcades.

As you walk from the main city where the tower is down to the Pleasure Beach it’s non-stop but walk down a bit further and it becomes quieter, more peaceful and less tacky. Right near Harrow Place tram stop is a lovely small hotel called ‘Number One South Beach’. The name doesn’t sound all that amazing but let me tell you it’s one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in and a perfect answer to where to stay in Blackpool.

The hotel is 5 star and a room starts at around £80 a night so it’s really affordable for such a beautiful stay. It’s down a side street just off the main front so it’s really quiet and there’s a free car park which is always a great start. Pulling up at the hotel we grabbed a space just outside the front door and walked in through the bar area to reception. Once we had checked in the person on duty took us upstairs to show us the room and its amenities which was really nice.

We opted for a king room which worked out at £140 a night, but over Bank Holiday weekend we thought this was a really good price. The hotel is totally into its tech with contactless door entry cards and wireless light switches meaning you can turn on and off lights from one device which you can move around the room, there’s also another one wall mounted by the door.

Our room had a massive king sized bed flanked with bedside tables, a sofa at the end of the bed with a TV table on the opposite wall complete with Freeview box and a DVD player. If you don’t have a DVD with you the hotel has hundreds at reception which you can grab and watch in the comforts of your room. There’s a built-in wardrobe which includes robes and slippers to use, and a dressing table so it was really roomy. But one of the best things about the room is the bathroom. You get a separate shower cubicle and a bath, but it’s no ordinary bath it’s a jacuzzi bath which I definitely took advantage off before we headed home. Not only can you relax in the bath but there’s a TV on the wall at the end so you could be watching TV or a DVD when in the tub.

As a small hotel, there’s only about 15 room’s making it feel really cozy and meaning you’re unlikely to encounter loads of noise and it also meant that you had a specific table for breakfast with your room number on it. The breakfast is all cooked from scratch so you placed your order the night before with your meal choice and breakfast time and then when you rocked up the following morning it would be ready to bring out to you. Little things like this make such a difference.

So if you’re heading up north and wondering where to stay in Blackpool to rest your head away from the bright lights and tacky seafront choose Number One South Beach, alternatively check out these best b&b Blackpool for alternative options.

Its been a very long time since I went to Blackpool but even then most of the sea front hotels were really dated and in need of a refurbish. It is good that you found such a lovely hotel to stay in. It certainly looks modern with lots of space.

When we stayed in Blackpool it was at a premier Inn but I would have loved to stay here for the jacuzzi alone! The price for a bank holiday is really good as well.
