Empties Part 3: What (Not) To Buy

July 12, 2018

Empties posts are one of my favourites to read as you can give a real opinion on something when you’ve finished it as opposed to just trying it out for a few days/ week. I’ve done a few empties posts before but this month I have a pretty big one as somehow I’ve managed to use up quite a lot of products, so let’s jump straight in. Apologises in advance for how long this post is going to end up.

I’ve used up two shampoo’s this month, the first being the Kerastase Cristalliste shampoo for thick hair which came from T JHughes and although it was a pretty good hydrating shampoo I’m just not keen on the screw top as in the shower it’s just tricky to use so I will not be repurchasing this.

The next shampoo I have finished is the John Frieda Forever Smooth Shampoo and I’m a pretty big fan of the John Frieda shampoo’s but tend to go for the Radiant Red collection more. I don’t tend to get much frizz so I can’t really comment whether this has massively worked but it does make my hair feel fresh and hydrated. I’ll continue to buy John Frieda but not from the Frizz Ease collection.

Somehow in the last month we seem to have gone through a lot more toothpaste than normal and I’m not quite sure why but we finished a tube of Colgate Advanced White toothpaste. I usually just buy whatever’s on offer in Boots in all honesty and that tends to be Colgate as it’s always what I end up with. The minty taste is nice on this as it isn’t too overpowering and it’s such good value for money so I’ll probably be repurchasing this.

Next up was a Bath and Bodyworks shower gel as I am working my way through a massive order I placed last year so a lot of the scents are not too seasonal. This Frosted Coconut Snowball version I believe was from the Christmas collection but it’s such a fresh scent that I actually think it’s perfect for the summertime. I’m not the biggest coconut fan so I know from that, that it wasn’t too overpowering and if it appears again later this year I’ll be repurchasing.

I always forget to keep mini’s as I tend to leave them in whatever hotel room I’m staying in but I finished my Apple – mint crunch shower and bath gel last month and the scent was amazing, so fresh and clean smelling. Although I can’t actually find this online which makes me sad, if I do I’ll be repurchasing.

Next up are two skincare products, firstly my trusty Garnier Micellar Water which is a bathroom must have for me and the version which I always come back to because it’s such good value for money. It works really well and removes pretty much all of my makeup and the bottles tend to last quite a long time. I have already repurchased this so once I’ve finished another makeup remover I’ll be jumping back to this one.

The final skincare item is the Lush eua roma Water Toner which I have to admit I’ve had knocking around for quite a long time. This is really soothing and soft on my face but it never felt like it was doing much compared to say the Pixi Glow Tonic or other toners with slightly harsher ingredients so I probably won’t be repurchasing this.

I can not even remember the last time I finished a perfume as it’s been a long long time but this month I finished off my Petite Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf and I am so upset to not have it in my life anymore. I am trying to make an effort to firstly use perfume more often but also to finish up some ones I’ve had for a little longer than I’d have liked. I am pretty bad at describing scents so I’m not even going to but it’s a stunning soft scent which isn’t too harsh but it lasts really well. Once I’ve finished some more of my perfumes I’ll definitely be repurchasing this.

Makeup wise I have a mascara from Buxom which I am ashamed to admit I have had way way way too long but finally it’s all finished and gone to mascara heaven. One thing I loved about this mascara was the fact that you could twist the top to change the length of the wand meaning you could reduce it to get into the corners or do your lower lashes or extend it for all over coverage and it’s not something I’ve seen a lot of mascara’s do. I can’t see the same one still available but if it is I’d repurchase this.

The final two things that I finished are two candles. To start with I have a small Sleep Well Travel Candle which comes from Scentered. It’s designed to help you sleep and so has a lovely soft floral and lavender scent which burnt really nicely so the scent throw off was really nice. There are a lot of candles out there to help you sleep so I’d be inclined not to repurchase and try some other brands first.

The second candle is this amazing Grapefruit and neroli candle from Matalan which I featured in my May favourites post and I absolutely love. It smelt so summery full of citrus and sweet scents without being too overpowering and even when it wasn’t burning it smelt lovely. At just £6 it was such a bargain but it’s currently showing as out of stock online so I might have to make a quick trip to my local store to see if they have any and if they do I’ll be repurchasing multiples to always have some on hand.

Such a good idea to do this. Only product i’ve really tried from this lot is the toothpaste and I love it, makes your teeth feel squeaky clean!

I’m awful at never managing to get through anything as I seem to have more things come in before I finish them and yeah..

I have the toner from Lush as well at the moment and tbh I like it most as a cooling spray in the day out the fridge.

You managed to use up so many products this month! I’m awful for getting things used up if I’m being honest, haha!

What a fabulous idea on doing a post on empties! I’d never have thought of it. Also can’t believe how many products you have used this month.

  6. Lilinha says:

I tend to stick to the same products once they work for my skin as it is quite sensitive and can flare up with new products.

This is an awesome idea ! This really tells what products are working for you – and they might do for others too.

So interesting to read which products are working for you and which aren’t. I can understand why a screw top would be quite inconvenient in the shower!
