Even growing up stockings weren’t really a thing in our house and it wasn’t until growing up and speaking to friends that I realised how commonplace they were for everyone else. This Christmas I’ll be waking up on the morning at Luke’s house which means for the first time I’ll get a stocking to open and I am so excited. I’ve done stockings for my family a few times and I always think they’re nice to add a few extra little products in and it’s a bit of a novelty. Here are some of my favourite stocking filler items for this year.
Chocolate is a must for a stocking and this Chocolate Doughnut* (£4.25) and Chocolate Lollipop*(£2.50) are not only really tasty but they look great. The doughnut is solid chocolate and is hand decorated with drizzle and decorations so it looks incredible, plus it comes in a little gift box so there’s less chance of it getting damaged. I actually have a dinosaur lollipop which is really cool for a gift for him, or the unicorn would be a nice stocking filler for her as it’s a really tasty milk chocolate slab covered in plenty of decorations.
If you’re putting together a stocking for someone who struggles to sleep this Magnesium Sleep Lotion* (£9.95) would be a practical gift for them and what better gift is there than the gift of sleep?! The Sleep Notion mixes together Magnesium Chloride which helps relax tired muscles with Lavender and Chamomile which will sooth and quieten your mind and slow sensory activity, mixed together they promote a great night’s sleep.
The cream itself sinks into the skin really quickly and you need just a few pumps to activate the power of the cream. By mixing this into your bedtime routine you’ll always be well prepared for sleep.
You can’t go wrong with a nice pen as a stocking filler especially for someone who doesn’t work solely on a computer like I do. This wooden ballpoint pen* (£17.99) is made from natural wood so it’s very lightweight so a great writing tool that won’t tire your hands out. It has a medium point nib so there’s no worry about smudging and smearing your words when writing, so this would be a great gift to someone whose still studying as there’s always physical writing when you’re in education.
The smart box which it comes in is both great to keep the pen safe and out of the depths of your bag, but it also makes it easier to wrap, win win!
If you’re buying for someone who loves making things or they’re good with their hands a Threaders Companions Crochet Kit* (£14.99) will keep them busy for a few hours (or days in my case!) The sets contain everything you need to make an adorable crocheted companion including Zack the Zebra that I have or a whole choice of other animals including new characters Leo the Lion and Pippa the Panda.
You’ll get yarns, crochet tools, stuffing and easy-to-follow instructions so you can create the creature yourself. I think this would make a really nice gift for anyone who enjoys creating things as you can keep the animal at the end and know you crocheted it yourself.
For the beauty lovers out there sheet masks are always a good shout and I’d love to receive these one’s from Oh K!* (from £4.50) in my stocking. The Cherry Lip Mask is a nice nourishing way to treat your lips during the cold, harsh weather, especially if you wear a lot of liquid lipsticks. I’ve used this mask a few times and it’s always been a great hydration boost not just to my lips but for the delicate skin just around which I find can get quite dry. All you need to do is peel it off the backing and leave it on for 10-20 minutes and bam you’ll get soft lips. The Cucumber Sheet Mask is designed to calm and cool the skin but as a sheet mask it’s also very hydrating.
Lip Balms are a god send at this time of the year so these flavoured balms from Crazy Rumors* (From £3.80) will be great for keeping your lips soft and supple. They do a whole host of scents including Spiced Chai and Hot Cocoa which are part of their seasonal range and smell absolutely amazing. The balms have Shea Butter within them so they’re very hydrating and won’t leave you chapped in the coldest months.
Who doesn’t love and want a nice new mug at Christmas?! Especially when it looks as pretty as this Sara Miller London Pink Mug* (£15.50) which has beautiful patterning the whole way round featuring two birds perched on a blossom tree branch. Sara Miller had a vision to bring her love of pattern, print and colour into her designs and she’s now an award-winning British designer.
This mug truly is stunning and the contrast of the gold on the pink is beautiful so it would make a great Christmas present. It is presented in a gift box so you can keep it nice and safe when you’re wrapping and presenting it.
Another one for a beauty lover’s Stocking would be these Christmas Themed House of Holland Elegant Touch Nails* (From £7.99). It wouldn’t be Christmas without themed clothing and makeup and these awesome nails will really stand out around the festive period. Wrap Battle are a bit more suitable with a beautiful red shimmer colour all over and gold stripes while Christmas Cluster are a bit more in your face Christmas.
If you do any Christmas eve stockings these would work really well as you get the chance to put them on ready for Christmas. There are a variety of sized nails so they’re bound to fit everyone.
Another one for beauty lovers is the All That Jazz The Designer Collection of Nail Varnishes* (£11.97) which contains four beautiful nail varnishes ready to get you through the festive and Winter months. The varnishes are inspired by fashion designers with elements of runway glamour and it’s such a good value set where you buy 3 but get 1 free. The colours themselves are stunning with a beautiful dark shimmery blue called ‘Vivienne’, a metallic red called ‘Coco’, a lilac nude called ‘Vera’, and a sparkly silver called ‘Betsey’ which works great on top of other shades.
I am trying to do my nails myself more in a bid to save money so for anyone who loves to paint their own nails this is a great Winter set.
I really like presents which give something back and that’s exactly what the cute Bertie the Befriender Bear* (£15) does as proceeds from his sale go to help raise awareness of the RAF Association’s befriending service. The service offers friendship and support to people out there who may feel lonely or isolated by offering a chance for people to chat. I love the idea of this as I do think in a world so socially connected we do often forget about those people who may be older or less technology minded who may be missing out on human contact.
The Royal Air Forces Association (RAF Association) is a registered charity which provides welfare support to RAF personnel and their immediate families as they recognise that these people who dedicate their lives to their country should not be left suffering, lonely or in poverty. The charity provides practical, emotional and financial support so if you’re looking to make a difference check out the gifts from the RAF Association.
Sweets are always a great idea for stocking fillers and these Pint of Beer Sweets* (£11.99) would be great for anyone who loves a good gummy sweet. The can holds a whole pint full of beer flavoured sweets which amounts to a massive 1kg of sweets which I can attest to is pretty heavy. As the tin is pretty sizeable you can keep it afterwards to use it for storage, or even to keep your continuous stash of sweets in.
The can has a proper ring pull to get inside and is a great gift for any beer (and sweet) lover in your life.
One of the things I’d most love to find in my stocking would be jewellery and these Silver Moon Drop Earrings* (£19) are just what I’d love. Earlier this year I got the matching Moon Pendant from Hersey Silversmith and it’s absolutely beautiful so these matching earrings are a dream.
The earrings are on a small wire fastening which means they sit just below the earlobe giving a small drop without it being too much, so if you’re not great with massive drops or prefer subtle earrings these are just what you need. The moon itself is solid and made from sterling silver and they’re really well made so they don’t feel like they’re going to bend like some other drop earrings.
If you’re looking for a present for any avid gamer, or someone who fondly reminders the 90’s then this Plug and Play Retro TV Games* (£11.99) set will keep them quiet for hours. All you need to do is plug it straight into your TV and there’s a library of over 200 retro games to try in all of it’s 8-bit pixelated glory.
The controller has a mini joystick as well as A and B Buttons and it works really well for a retro gaming product, plus its such good value for money as you’ll get hours of fun with this. I found it really easy to use as you just needed to add batteries and plug it in and that’s it, although I wasn’t particularly good at the games themselves.
