Half Way Through The Year – June Overview

July 1, 2020

2020 is half-way over already. In a way, I’m quite happy as it’s been a strange one. But the other part of me can’t believe we’re that far into the year. I can’t believe I’m writing my June overview post already! It’s only a matter of time before I mention the C-word here! And I’m not even sorry šŸ™‚

While this month has felt the most normal with a few things relaxing. It’s also been my toughest month in terms of my mental and physical health. Lockdown is starting to take its toll but at the end of the day, I’m safe so that’s all that should really matter. Here’s my June overview and what I’ve been up to.

Being ‘social’

Even though certain restrictions have loosened I’ve not really been that social over the month. And it’s starting to worry me. Will I ever be able to get back into a form of normality? Only time will tell with that.

I’ve tried to get outside a bit more in June, although it still didn’t happen very often at all. I did a long 4-hour walk including a large bit with my friend which was lovely. And I’ve spent a little time in the garden/ on a few solo walks. The fresh air and sunshine have been really nice. And at the end of the month, I spent a good chunk of time in the front garden of our new house as it got a little old of control.

As I’m getting all of my food deliveries from work I’ve not really been to any shops during June. I know I need to go into town at some point, but there’s nothing I need that badly to battle the queues.Ā We’ve had two birthday’s in Luke’s family this month so we’ve had a few meals at his parents. The change of scenery has been nice even if we’ve not gone far.

June overview: New house update

Again the house has been the biggest part of my month. My month three renovation diary is up which you can read here for more in-depth info. The plastering is fully complete which is amazing and transforms the whole house. The tiling has pretty much been completed in the en-suite so we can get everything fitted now. And the wooden flooring in our kitchen/ diner is now down. So some big jobs have been done which is great.

Ensuite progress

The decorating was meant to begin around Father’s Day but unfortunately, this didn’t happen so we’re still waiting for this to start. We did brave Ikea right at the end of the month to finalise our kitchen choice which was fun. We pretty much knew what we wanted but now we’re in a position to get it we wanted to be sure and see everything in the flesh again.

It’s slowly but surely coming together, but I’m just impatient. Hopefully, we won’t be too far from moving in when I do my next overview at the start of August.

Everything else…

Sadly, I’ve not been doing that well with my reading this past month. I’ve definitely been slacking so I need to restart that again as I’ve been enjoying reading so much more during the lockdown. I’ve been watching 13 reasons why, although I realised I hadn’t watched season 3 so I’ve had two seasons to catch up on. Other than that I’ve not watched much else to be honest, other than Ru Paul’s Drag Race: All-Stars has started again which I am so excited about.

I’ve now hit 10 weeks at my new job which has gone by so quickly. And the more I’m working here, the more I’m loving it. I feel more creative in this job than I ever have before and that’s one of the biggest things for me. In terms of my blogs I’ve been working hard on my new ones and have built them up to DA’s of about 11/12 which I’m happy with for a month’s work (petalsandplanes and budgetingandsaving)

All of my summertime events have now been cancelled or rescheduled. I was a little gutted that A Day To Remember wasn’t rescheduled for next year as I was looking forward to that. But it’s nice to have things to look forward to next year.

I can’t believe you have been at the new job ten weeks already, that’s bonkers! I have also been quite slack on the reading side of things.

Getting out for walks and fresh air can do you the world of good. If you can do this more with friends it’ll make you feel so much better x

I’m trying to get out every single day, but when I’m working 9-6 it makes it quite tough sometimes x

It seems strange we are half way through the year already and what a year so far. I remember just before you started your job how can it be that long already x

I know what you mean, as I am a bit unsure and anxious too. Glad to see your home is getting there. Also, you look fab in that dress by the way x

Since COVID I’ve been running 3 times a week and going for long walks in the country. Feel so much better for it. You look fabulous in that dress.

I really need to focus more on getting outside, though the weather seems to have taken a slight turn this week. Fingers crossed I can get out more over the weekend. I have had so much fun reading during lockdown, it seems to be the only part of life which has stayed the same.

As long as it’s dry I don’t mind going out as I quite like it when it’s been cooler x

Great to see that your house plastering has been completed. I am sure this is a huge relief for you. I am sure a mum needed trip to Ikea will help you finalise the furniture and decor items for your home.

I just started season 4 of 13 Reasons Why myself. I haven’t been social, we’ve been under lockdown and while things are slowly opening in phases I really want no part of it as too many people aren’t being safe.

Season 4 was very different from 1-3 I thought! I agree I’m not going to be going back to bars/ restaurants etc yet x

I’m really glad to see that you have been super productive during the entire lockdown. It’s really good to see a positive post! Thanks for sharing šŸ˜€

I feel like im missing half of this year, what a whirlwind it has been. Great to see the house is coming on šŸ™‚ hopefully the next 6 months will be calmer for us all ha x

As im going to work most days i don’t feel I’m not going out, but other than work i haven’t got anywhere for nearly 4 months, which is odd, this year is a little disappointing, I’m not unhappy at the moment but there were a lot of things we had planned and trying to do that all got put to the side which is a shame for the kiddies.

    • Rhian Westbury says:

Yeah it must be tough for you all when you had things planned esp for the kids, but plenty to look forward to when we can x

I can’t believe we are half way through the year already. And what a half year it’s been already! I’m just looking forward to the kids going back to school in September so I can get back into a routine

  13. Vicky Welton says:

I am just the same as you. I’m working every day and just not finding the time to get out – which I know will make me feel better in the long run! Easier said than done though!

    • Rhian Westbury says:

It really is. I find when I’m in the office all the little bits add up like the walk from the car park, the stairs to my desk, getting up for meetings etc but you don’t get that at home x

  14. Angela Ricardo Bethea says:

With 2 little boys, I have been quite busy these past few weeks. Though I’d love to have small self care breaks once in a while.
