If you’ve read my blog for a while you’ll know that I am a huge music fan but since I stepped down from editing a large music website I do feel that I’ve not been in the loop as much. Recently I’ve spent far more of my time listening to old playlists and albums from years ago as opposed to listening to new music which isn’t particularly good so I am going to make it my mission to listen to as many new albums as I can before the end of the year. Here are some of the tracks that I’m loving at the moment.
Bring Me The Horizon – Mantra
It seemed like my favourite band were away for a long time before this track was released a few months ago and I have to admit I wasn’t too sure when I first heard it but after listening to it a few times I was hooked, and months later I still am. After seeing the guys three times on their latest tour it’s cemented in my mind how much I love this track. Yes it’s quite different from their older music but that’s the band growing up and progressing musically, but I can still hear some of the old school Bring Me vibes in the track.
Emarosa- Givin’ Up
I was pretty shocked when I listened to the new Emarosa track as it’s sooooo different from anything that I’ve heard from the band before. I know they’ve had a whole bunch of lineup changes but ‘Givin’ Up’ is a far change from their post-hardcore roots but I absolutely love the new track. As I’ve gotten old I have found that my music taste has matured so the lighter, dancier edge to the band really appeals to me. Plus you can’t beat a track with a Sax solo!
I couldn’t even put a single track by Dream State here as I find myself revisiting their 5 track EP ‘Recovery’ so often. I first discovered the band back in May when I saw them at Slam Dunk after hearing some really positive things about the band and they blew me away so I watched them again a few weeks later at Download Festival. The band finally announced a headline tour for next year and I bought tickets to their London show straight away. They’re one of the few female fronted bands who I absolutely love and they’re heavy enough to get my head banging and get me feely all angsty but they’re also really melodic. Below is a cover they did of Linkin Park’s ‘Crawling’ for an album on songs which changed my life.
Seaway – Blur
Pop-punk seems to be one of my general go-to genres so bands like Seaway are instant favourites. I’ve seen the guys live a few times over the past few years although I am gutted I didn’t manage to see them recently when they were in the UK. ‘Blur’ is such a great feel-good track which makes me smile as soon as it comes on, but to be honest, a lot of the band’s music does this to me. They’re one of those bands who are great to put on if you’ve had a bad day and just need a smile.
Nothing But Thieves – Forever & Ever More
I’ve liked Nothing But Thieves for quite a while but never really listened to them religiously. That was until their new EP came out which is pretty special. The lead track ‘Forever & Ever More’ has been played on Radio X so much so I’ve heard it countless times and it doesn’t get old with such a build-up to every chorus. I’m definitely going to keep my eyes open as I really want to see them live again.
