Eclectic Live Shows In April

I can’t believe another month is over and another batch of live shows have been crossed off my list. Even though I edit a music website alongside this I feel that I am a bit behind on the shows which get announced so if anyone has any tips on how to stay updated (sites, newsletters etc) so let me know as I’d hate to miss anything.

The month’s live music started on Friday 6th April where I headed to Camden’s Underworld with Luke to a tribute night. It started off with Dusted who are a Busted tribute band then moved to Fell Out Boy and Green Haze (no prizes for guessing what bands they were doing tributes of). The whole night was so much fun and reminded me how much I love these bands, it even made me slightly sad that I hadn’t seen Fall Out Boy play London’s O2 Arena the weekend before. Green Haze themselves were amazing and so close to the real thing so kudos to them.

The month carried on with a hometown show from Lower Than Atlantis in good old Watford on Friday 13th April. I first saw the band around a decade ago when they were working their way up the ladder and it was amazing to see them back on a larger scale, it made me feel really proud. Plus the Watford Colosseum is so good for live music as everything sounds so good in there, and being able to walk home in about 12 minutes is great too. The first support band was The Faim and I couldn’t recommend them enough if you love things on the lighter side of rock.

Next up was a theatre trip which I know isn’t live music in the same sense but I thought I’d include it as musicals are pretty darn close. I saw Young Frankenstein at the Garrick Theatre on Tuesday 17th April with Luke as it was something we’d seen advertised on the tube for ages and managed to get great priced tickets through Amazon a few months back. I’d not seen the Young Frankenstein movie although Luke said it followed it quite closely but the songs were clever and the overall show was really funny.

My final show of the month was Skindred at Brixton Academy on 28th April. I’ve always loved seeing Skindred live as the shows are always so much fun and this was just that. I’m going to be honest and say I don’t know masses of their music but that doesn’t matter as everything is always so catchy and Benji is such an engaging front-man.

You always seem to see the most amazing bands every month! How cool to be able to walk home after a gig as well – I always have to go on a drive after which is probably why I don’t go so much now.

That sounds like a brilliant lot of band watching! I used to go out and watch live music a lot more than we do nowadays (mind you I worked for a music law firm so tickets were easier to come by!), when our kids are older I am sure we will be back to it! šŸ˜€

I avoid gigs these days due to my tinnitus but the names these tribute bands come up with really make me smile. I would love to see Young Frankenstein though as that’s one of my all time favourite movies.
