Empties Part 6: What (Not) To Buy

Empties Part 6: What (Not) To Buy

It’s time for yet another empties post, and it’s been another busy 4-6 weeks for products. As I am going to be moving in the first few months of next year I am trying to use up as many things as I can so there’s less to move with me/ store. I’m also going to be brutal when it comes to sorting out things/ packing with what I keep and what I get rid of. Without further ado here’s the items I have used up recently.

The first body item was the Body Shop Vanilla Pumpkin Shower Gel which I bought from the Autumn/ Halloween seasonal collection. I absolutely love this scent which is quite unusual as I’m not a fan of vanilla. Thankfully it was quite a light scent which was more pumpkin than vanilla and I found it lingered on the skin for a while. I would definitely re-buy this but I’m not sure it’s still being sold.

The other shower gel I finished up was the Bath and Bodyworks Pretty as a peach one which I’m going to admit didn’t have an overly strong scent. I love the bath and bodyworks shower gels as the scents are usually so strong that you can smell them way after the shower but this one was a little disappointing so I won’t be buying this scent again.

I did finish another Bath and Bodyworks product which was the Oh Happy Days foaming hand soap which has been one of my favourite scents as it’s pink grapefruit. The foaming hand soaps are great as they’re hydrating on the skin, they last really well and the scents are absolutely fantastic. I always buy these when I am in the States or when someone I know goes so I’d definitely re-purchase this.

Empties hair care

Next up are two hair care products from the Phil Smith collection which you can buy from Sainsbury’s. The Hello Moisture Nourishing Repair Shampoo* was really nice at giving my hair that bit of additional hydration and even after blow-drying my hair didn’t feel too dry or limp which is great for such a cheap shampoo. I’d re-purchase this.

The Gently Does it Ultra Soothing Conditioner* smells nice as it’s tea tree and mint which is super refreshing in the morning. I liked the conditioner but it didn’t make my hair feel super soft like my higher end conditioners do so for this reason I don’t think I’d re-purchase.

After seeing some bloggers/ YouTubers rave about Mitchem deoderants I decided to change up my normal Sure useage and try something new which is the Triple Odor Defense Shower Fresh spray which I’m going to admit I love. With Sure I always found that I’d get slight white marks even if I bought the no white marks stuff and shook it up but Mitchem doesn’t have the same problem which I love. Plus it keeps me feeling fresh for so much of the day so I’m converted and will continue to re-purchase these.

Next up in this miscellaneous category is some Colgate Cavity Protection Toothpaste. There’s not much to say about this really other than it’s a good toothpaste for it’s money and has a lovely minty scent/ taste. I generally go for whatever toothpaste is on offer as I’ve yet to try one that I love so much more than anything else so I might end up re-purchasing this.

The final item I finished was another perfume, this time it was the Jimmy Choo Eau De Parfum which Luke bought me for Valentines Day and I absolutely love. Before last year I rarely ever used perfume but I’ve properly gotten into them, and although I suck at describing scents this is a slightly fruity yet floral scent which is one of my favourites. I have a lot of other perfumes to use up but when I need to buy one I would re-purchase this scent.

Next up are some skincare items which is an area I rarely ever finish bits in as I have so much skincare that I rotate that stuff doesn’t tend to get finished. First up is the Glossier Super Bounce Serum which is designed to soften and plump tired skin which is something I really need. You just need to apply a few drops onto the skin and I was doing that at the end of my skincare routine before moisturizing and I have to admit I did notice a difference on my skin which was great but there’s not much product in the bottle for the price. I used this up so quickly that I don’t know if I could justify the price to replace this knowing it won’t last that long, so for the moment I won’t re-purchase while I try out other serums.

Next up is the Benefit It’s Potent Eye Cream which I’m going to hold my hands up and say that I’ve owned this far longer than I should have but it’s finally all been used up. I try to use eye cream everyday but it doesn’t always happen, but this one was really hydrating and soothing on my delicate under-eye skin so I would re-purchase this if I’m ever in need of an eye cream again.

The skincare item is the Mango Body Shop Hand Cream which I have been obsessed with. Since working in my new job I have been keeping a hand cream on my desk and using it a few times a day and my hands have massively thanked me for this especially since the weather got colder. The Body Shop Hand Creams are really hydrating and this particular one smells amazing so I’d definitely re-purchase.

This month I was pretty impressed to finish up three makeup items, starting with the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation which I bought back from the States. I really wasn’t sure of this to begin but I grew to love it as it’s so hydrating being a water foundation, I never found that it looked cakey or clung to any dry patches which is quite a feat for a foundation now. I’d definitely re-purchase this when I’ve used up a few more foundations.

Next up is one of the Stila glitter eyeshadow which I am a huge fan of. I have a few shades of these and they’re my go to party/ going out makeup as they’re so glittery and they actually last. I love that you apply them with a doe foot applicator as I don’t get the glitter everywhere and there’s no fall out. I already have a few different shades but I’d definitely re-purchase this.

This little Too Faced Melted Matte liquid lipstick was a free gift from a Sephora shop but it’s such a nice shade as it’s a nude/ pink hybrid so there’s some colour without it being overbearing. Due to the size this was very useful to pop in my handbag or take with me when I went away, but as I have so many liquid lipsticks I don’t think I’d re-purchase at the moment.

The final items are candles, and I used up the Home Sense Rum and Pumpkin, Wax Lyrical/ Silent Night Sleep Candle and the Zoella Festive Cookie. The Home Sense one is my favourite out of the three as it was such a strong scent and there was something more to it than just pumpkin like a lot of other Autumnal candles. If Home Sense did this candle again I would re-purchase.

The Wax Lyrical one was just really relaxing which is really nice for when you’re in the bath or having a lazy day but I do prefer ones with a stronger scent. I picked up the Festive Cookie one in the January sales in Boots but kept it for this Christmas and it was nice but nothing special which would make me want to to re-purchase. I don’t think I’d re-purchase either of these candles.

Have you tried any of these items before?

Thank you for your honest review of these products. I also like Bath and Body Works shower gels. The current one I am using is from their holiday collection – Frosted Coconut. I love the scent!

Very honest and thoughtful post. And to be very honest, when it comes shower gels I only settle down for 2, fiama di wills or dove.

I love the foaming handsoaps that Bath and Bodyworks do, I just wish they weren’t so expensive to buy over here, otherwise, I think I might have a bathroom full of them! Thank you for such an honest run down of what you would or wouldn’t rebuy!

I definitely have lots of partially used bath & bodyworks paraphernalia in my house. Great to hear I’m not alone!

I’m constantly seeing lists of what to buy. Thanks for making a list of what not to buy. Some items are a complete waste!

Haha it was fun reading what products worked for you and what didn’t. I also like the Mitchum product and I am a bath and body works person too. I buy their hand soap all the time.

This is a really great, honest post. I have to admit I really LOVE Body Shop products too, they always work well and smell amazing!

The Body Shop products are honestly amazing, and fantastic scents. I think Mitchum deodorant is a really good brand too and works really well. 🙂 xx

I have heard SO many good things about Bath & Bodyworks, so much so I wish we had one here in the UK! Also, the festive cookie Zoella candle smells AMAZING, doesn’t it?

I’ve never tried any of these products before. I’d love to try something from Bath and Bodyworks.

I will have to try the mitchum deo – the white marks REALLY bug me from my regular type. I’m a total sucker for new bathroom stuff – I have 50 million little bottles in mine (ok slight exaggeration!) so I love this post

I haven’t heard of Bath and Bodyworks but I love the packaging, such a shame it’s not more readily available.
