Giraffe has 44 locations all across the UK so chances are you’ve seen one in a city or town near you. Otherwise, maybe you’ve spotted them in an airport before you travelled with branches in Heathrow T3 & T5, Birmingham, Gatwick, Southend, Stanstead, and Manchester.
The Watford branch opened up as a connection to our massive Tesco superstore a number of years ago and it’s one of those locations which just makes so much sense as I always get so hungry just thinking of food before I do my weekly shop. When I was living at my flat this location was just a 5-minute walk away from my front door which made it such an easy location. Now it’s a bit further away but still outside of my local supermarket.
Recently I was invited along to the Watford branch to check out their new set-menu that they have and experience what it’s like in the branch which I was very excited about as it had been a while since I’d last been to Giraffe.
Giraffe have so many great deals on their food and drink with special kids deals, 50% off burgers on a Tuesday, a cocktail happy hour, and their feel-good set menu which is just £9.95 for a 2-course meal, or £12.95 for a 3-course meal.
The price in itself is exceptional and there are very few places that even come close to this. As me and Luke are in savings mode for our future home it’s really nice to know that we can come out for a 3-course meal with a drink and have the total come to around £30. Even a basic Nando’s with a soft drink would come in more expensive than this!
The Set- Menu has around 4 starter options, 6 main meal options (and some additional variations), and then 3 dessert options which mean you don’t need to stare at the menu and spend hours trying to decide what you’re going to order. One of the things which is great about the menu is that half of the main course options are vegetarian which is incredible as usually, they tend to be left with 1 option when it comes to set menus.
While we were deciding what to order for our food we grabbed some drinks. As it was the middle of the afternoon I decided against a cocktail and went for a fresh lemonade with mint which was so refreshing. It wasn’t too sour like some fresh lemonades can be and the mint added a slight sweetness to it, a great alternative to the normal soft drinks that I tend to opt for. Luke was very much a creature of habit and got a Pepsi, if you know what you like then you know what you like!
One thing I always notice about Giraffe is if you go in around lunchtime at the weekend it’s always so busy with families, maybe it’s a secret to keeping your kids happy about going shopping to bribe them with lunch out. Have Giraffe maybe cottoned on to a new parenting hack?! We arrived at 2 pm and it was pretty busy but by about 2.45 pm it had calmed down a bit.
There were a few starters that we had our eyes on so we decided to choose two we both liked and share them so we got the best of both worlds. We decided to get a Garlic Flatbread which was soft and airy with just enough garlic to satisfy our love for it but not so much that we could smell it on each other’s breath from across the table.
Then we picked the salt and pepper squid which had such a nice kick to it with the pepper, I could feel it on the back of my throat but it was such a nice sensation. With the salt and pepper, it gave a really nice texture to the squid and the sweet chili dip was a great accompaniment.
One thing I did note was that the portions were full size and didn’t seem smaller even though it was on such a well-priced set menu.
For our main meals, we both opted for burgers with Luke being a creature of habit with a hamburger and fries, but I opted for cheese and bacon (an extra £2) and sweet potato fries (an extra £1) for something a little different.
The burgers themselves were moist and really well cooked with such a lot of flavour packed into them. One thing I really appreciated was despite all the fillings it didn’t fall apart in my fingers or create too much mess which is the sign of a sub-par burger bun. I hadn’t had sweet potato fries in ages and they were really nice and crispy which I know from trying myself is pretty hard to get right.
Plus the regular burger works out at £9.95 on its own so with the set menu you’re getting a free starter!
As we opted for the three-course meal it was time for one of my favourite parts of the meal; dessert time. I knew straight away that I wanted churros so it was an easy choice for me, but Luke debated for ages and eventually set on the Hot Chocolate Brownie which was gooey and rich without being too sickly. Sadly I didn’t get to try his dessert as it was gone before I’d even gotten the chance, the sign of a good dessert.
I know I’ve said it a few times but considering the price I wasn’t expecting such a big dessert, I had 5 really good sized churro’s which were crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the outside, and covered in plenty of cinnamon sugar which is one of my favourite bits. The pot of dipping chocolate didn’t look like much on its own but was more than enough for all the churros thankfully.
We had such a great time at Giraffe and knowing how reasonably priced the menu is we’ll definitely be coming back when we fancy a treat but know we should be saving.

The value is amazing, we’ll definitely pop in next time we’re in Herts and yes with churros on the menu, it will be a winner with kids. Mich x
I love Giraffe, such a great restaurant to take the family but sadly our local one closed down 🙁
We love eating out and this place seems just so yummy and well priced – can’t beat that!
This is great value. My parents went to Giraffe with my son yesterday at Trafford Centre and said it was good. I’ve never been to one before
I’m yet to try giraffe, I haven’t seen any near me, I’ll have to keep my eyes pealed!
I’m a huge fan of still lemonade, so refreshing.
It sounds like a really great place, good portion size and prices too! I’d definitely go for the burger, lemonade and churros too! Yummy!
Oo all of this food looks so good, especially those Churros! I have spotted Giraffe in our local town but never actually tried it but will make sure I do after seeing this! x
I haven’t been to a Giraffe in so long! The set menu looks amazing, and such great value for money! I definitely be getting the Churros next time I’m there x
We love that branch of Giraffe. It definitely helps to fill the kids up with food before you tackle the weekly food shop!
We don’t have a Giraffe restaurant over here in N.Ireland, but I *think* I have eaten in it once when I was {somewhere} in England a few years ago. It was really nice and the if I remember the kids menu was pretty fun, too.
I didn’t realize Giraffe had so many veggie options — I’ve not ever actually been there before because I thought it was mainly meat dishes. may give it a go now! xx
So many veggie and a few vegan options as well so there’s so much choice. I was so tempted by the jackfruit as well x
