I am a huge fan of gift experiences and over the years have bought loads for my family. Including archery and shooting with my dad, gin making with Luke and spa days with my mum. While the idea of unwrapping a physical gift is great with an experience you get to make memories. Plus it’s usually something you can do with the person.
Ahead of Father’s Day, I was thinking what to get my dad and an email from Buyagift popped in my inbox. Buyagift is usually my go to when I’m looking for afternoon tea deals for my days out in London as some of the deals are too good to pass up. My top recommendation is still the chocolate one at the Hilton on Park Lane. You need to experience it!
Going back to Father’s Day I was having a look to see what was on offer and one which jumped out at me was the Gourmet Dining Smartbox* (£89.99). This includes a voucher that can be used to book an amazing dining experience from over 250 different restaurants. I know how much my parents love going out for nice meals and this means they can do just that without having to worry about the main cost.
The Smartbox comes as a physical package with a booklet showcasing a lot of the experiences and choices. And then you can go online and make your choice and book the meal. I’ve had some of these physical vouchers myself and they’re so easy to book.
If you want to be more specific you can choose specific restaurants. My pick of the bunch is the three-course Michelin starred meal with bubbles for two at Gavin La Chapelle. I’ve been to the other Galvin restaurant at The Athenaeum and the food was out of this world.
If a meal for two isn’t quite right for your dad then there are a whole lot of other options. You can get a triple supercar driving experience for under £80 at the moment which is a steal. I’ve actually done a driving experience and it’s unlike anything I’ve done before. The adrenaline when you start driving that fast is both scary but incredible.
If supercars at high speed is a bit too much, how about booking a go-karting experience? I remember going go-karting with my dad as a kid and this would be a great way to reminisce. Plus now there’s a chance I could actually beat him!
Me and my dad have managed to tick off archery, crossbow and shooting so clay pigeon shooting is definitely next on the cards. Although one of the things I’m really keen to do is segwaying, although with my coordination I don’t think I’ll be all that good.
If your dad is a real adrenaline junkie why not go for a tandem skydive? Maybe he’s always mentioned it’s something he wants to do. And if not indoor skydiving is just as good. Me and Luke have been before and it’s such a great feeling, and much better if heights aren’t quite your thing.
Alcohol themed gifts always seem to be a bit of a theme with my dad. A birthday, Christmas or Father’s Day can’t pass without something related. It might be a bottle of something, some nice glasses or how about an experience?
My dad is a big whisky fan so whisky tasting for two for £40 is a great deal. With 11 locations available you get to sample six varieties of whisky and learn about the history of processes of them all. If whisky isn’t your dad’s thing there’s a beer master class, vineyard tours, rum cocktails and so much more. In the past, I’ve bought my dad tickets to go distillery tours (which always come with samples) and my dad has loved them.
Whatever your dad (or whoever you’re buying for) enjoys there’s going to be an experience (or ten) just right for them. My list grows every time I have a look on the website. For me I think segway, clay pigeon shooting and a very fancy meal out are next on my list.

My husband’s birthday is coming up and I think he might like the driving experience!
This looks perfect for my FIL for father’s day. We often end up picking one of those gift cards in the supermarket but this has so many more options available
Yeah so many options and it’s such a nice box to present x
I love their Smartboxes – it’s such a clever idea and is a good one for the person who has ‘everything’ 🙂
Yes I love experience gifts! I love the food experiences and spa pamper days! I haven’t bought one in ages, I will have to start buying them soon as it’s my Dad’s birthday
The driving experience sounds right up my dad’s street – thanks for the inspiration!
Yes, I love exprience gifts as presents, I think they’re the best. I’ve done dining, boat trips, afternoon tea and a meerkat expeirence. Mich x
Oh the meerkat experience sounds good x
This is a useful website for gift giving. My dad’s a whiskey fan, and would definitely appreciate that tasting as a gift!
I haven’t yet got into giving experience gifts. I think it is a great idea, though, and will be looking into it!
Great ideas! I love the idea of buying an “experience” rather than physical gift because it gives people the chance to make new memories and try new things too!
We love buying experience presents as gifts – my in laws actually just went to the Isle of Wight that they booked from one of the experience presents we bought! They make a fantastic gift.
It’s good as you can pick it yourself but be given ideas from whatever experience you’ve booked x
I got one of these vouchers for Christmas, but we haven’t used it yet. There’s so much choice on what to pick!
Amazing Site. A one stop shop for all your gifting needs. Will def. check it out some more when I have a few extra minutes.
