Future Home – Kitchen Inspiration

AD - This is a collaborative post but all thoughts and opinions are my own

Last year I started my future home inspiration series covering most rooms in a home. The kitchen is the area of the house I am most looking forward to designing as it was something which was pre-fitted in my flat and not something I was really able to have much control with. While I’m sure the kitchen won’t be one of the first things we’ll do as it will be quite costly I am excited to look at all the storage and unit options out there.

The absolute dream of mine is to have a kitchen which is big enough to have an island in even if it means knocking through and combining the dining room into the kitchen or borrowing some space from another room. It could even mean extending out of the back of the property to give us some extra room with massive open windows and an aluminium lantern roof which would add so much light into the space.

Firstly I think an island gives you so much more preparing space when it comes to cooking but then you can have bar stools and it makes it a more social area both to cook in but also to sit and eat at rather than always having it on our laps on the sofa. We may need to look at Kitchen Warehouse to get some inspiration when it comes to the full layout and look.

I also love the idea of having as little as possible on the worktops but utilising shelving for things (both open and in cupboards) but also with rails to hang utensils etc off. At the moment we have a lot of things on the work top and it means cleaning it can take ages as we have to move so much but having it more clear would make such a difference.

When it comes to the actual kitchen itself I love the idea of having wooden cabinets. I think they last well and just look really nice and to me the image on the left above is such a beautiful design and it looks so sleek and clean. I’d also like the cabinets to match the kitchen doors which would more than likely be wood as well.

That image is also a great way of showing how much you can do in a seemingly small space as a divide is created with the breakfast bar allowing it to be used as additional work space and a space to eat.

For me storage is going to be the most fun to do and I am totally going to buy a label maker and absolutely everything will have it’s own space, the large larder cupboard on the right genuinely makes me feel really happy and satisfied so it’s definitely something I want to go for. I watched Kate La Vie’s latest Kitchen tour on YouTube and she said that all of her cupboards are drawers and not shelves and I think this is such a good idea for bottom cabinets/ tall cupboards as you can pull the drawer out and instantly see what’s inside.

I’ve already started finding some storage solution ideas in my current flat just to see what does and doesn’t work and this Joseph Joseph Podium Storage Jar Set* is pretty great for that as it has one tall section and two small pots each of which have air tight tops so you don’t have to worry about anything getting in but they’re also non slip. The thing which I love most about this is the divider which stands the top smaller pot on, by having this it means you can pull out the bottom one without having to touch the top one as they’re not stacked on top of each other. I can imagine in my future kitchen having a whole line of these for different pasta’s, rubs and marinades which we use a lot of. This particular jar set is available in a lot of different versions as well so if you want more or less sections.

One of my favorite places in the house is the kitchen. If I have my own home, one place that would be furnished well and well-stacked would be the kitchen. Love the inspirations here! šŸ˜€

I’m not sure I’d have an island myself. Just one more thing for me and mybwife to walk into! Though my current kitchen is big enough for one.

I’ve always wanted to have one of the big kitchens you see in American TV shows. With a big island in the middle, a huge range style cooker and one of the huge American style fridges!

These images of kitchens are dreamy. How I would love to have a nice kitchen. Ours is small, and having been taken out and put back in again for electrical work, it has never been right since (nothing is straight). I hate it. How lovely to have such brilliant ideas for your future kitchen. Sounds perfect.

You have such great taste! Kitchens are so fun to plan out. There are so many options that make it a great place to design!

  22. Sarah | Boo Roo and Tigger Too says:

I can never decide what style of kitchen I love more. The modern ones look stylish but can feel cold, yet farmhouse kitchens are cosy but can feel tired.
