Sushi And Hotel Hangs – How To Spend A Relaxing Day In Cheltenham

Me in Cheltenham

*We were given provided with a complimentary meal in exchange for an honest review,
so all thoughts and opinions are my own. I was given a voucher for Jury’s Inn in
exchange for a campaign I worked for them on, but I didn’t have to do a write up on it

With so many bank holidays within a few weeks of each other, I knew that I wanted to plan something for one of the days. Otherwise, I would be destined to spend all of the Bank Holiday weekends lounging at home. While there’s nothing wrong with that I fancied a change of scenery.

Last month I worked with Jury’s Inn and they gave me a hotel voucher to allow me to spend a night in one of their branches. I knew this would be a great opportunity for my change of scenery. I had no real idea where I fancied so booked Cheltenham on a whim. It was about a 1 hr 40-minute drive from us so easily manageable but not too close.

YO Sushi Cheltenham

Lunch at YO! Sushi in Cheltenham

We began our day by driving into Cheltenham city centre to soak up the city and explore a little. We wandered along a street filled with local market stalls and popped into some shops. Then it was lunch time and we’d been booked into YO! Sushi.

Before I went to YO! recently for the first time I remember being sceptical about how much I’d be able to eat. I’m not the biggest fan of sushi, but I needn’t have been worried as there was so much choice.

For this reason, I knew that I’d be able to take Luke and even though he’s super fussy he’d be able to find things to eat. I absolutely loved the layout of the Cheltenham branch as the food belt was all curved around so there were so many seating options.

As soon as we sat down I started straight with some salmon nigiri which is such a simple dish. It’s just some smoked salmon laid over rice but it’s so tasty and a great starter.

Korean Chicken from YO! Sushi

Then we moved on and had a bunch of hot dishes that were easy to order and quick to arrive. We started off with an array of chicken including Katsu Chicken, Japanese Chicken and Korean Chicken. Great considering that 50% of mine and Luke’s diets are chicken.

The Katsu chicken had a crunch and was beautifully tender. The Japanese chicken had a smooth coating with a sweet tasting middle. And the Korean chicken was sticky and full of sweet chilli sauce.

YO Sushi Cheltenham chicken and YO Fries

I was impressed that Luke enjoyed all the dishes so to finish off our lunch we ordered some YO Fries and Chicken Katsu Burgers. The fries were sweet and soft with all the sauce but the Katsu burgers were the stand out’s. With the crispy chicken placed inside a super soft bao bun, it was such a great dish.

After finishing our meal it really stood out to me that so many people probably put off going to YO! Sushi because they think there will be nothing for them to eat. Or that they’re not a fan of seafood so it’s not for them. But it really goes to show that even if you’re a fussy eater who doesn’t like heat you can still have a full belly.

Originally we were going to head straight to Cineworld for a second watching of Avengers but it was fully booked until the evening so we headed to our Jury’s Inn to check in.

Jurys Inn Cheltenham

Jury’s Inn Cheltenham Review

The Cheltenham hotel is about a 10-minute drive from the main city centre but closeby for the racecourse if that’s what you’re heading to the city for. The actual hotel was pretty big with its own spa and full on restaurant. We managed to check in really smoothly and before you knew it we were in our room which for a ‘Spacious Double’ was really spacious.

I liked how it had a double and a single bed so great for families with one kid. Or for us, it gave me somewhere to lay and read my book while Luke was napping. Priorities right?!

The rooms had everything you’d really want, plenty of space, a desk to work at, a TV, a fan and a chair for a bit of relaxing space. I always tend to judge places by their bathrooms, and while the bath itself could have done with replacing the overall bathroom was clean with plenty of space which is the two most important things. I had a lot of space around the sink to lay out all my skincare items and the room came with plenty of towels for two people.

As we were just looking to have a relaxing evening we chilled in our hotel room for a few hours. And it was really nice to just sit back and relax. Our evening finished with dinner and a second Avengers showing which was just as good as seeing it for the first time.

How did you spend the early May bank holiday?

I have to admit I have been put off by Yo Shushi as I don’t like Sushi. It is nothing to do with the fish (which i like) but the texture of the rice.
However, the chicken they do looks amazing, so next time I am in town and peckish, I think that I will definitely give it a go!

This looks like a gorgeous hotel – those fountains outside certainly add a touch of elegance! I love sushi but Yo Sushi hasn’t impressed me in the past; I must say though, your food looks really good – perhaps I ought to give it another chance.

Oh no that’s a shame that it didn’t impress me, definitely worth another shot though x

I have always wanted to stay in a Jury’s Inn but wasn’t sure what the rooms looked like, but they look really nice and you had a bath. So many rooms only come with a shower.

I used to go to the original Yo Sushi around the corner from my work in London, it was super exotic then, but really fun. I went recently in Cambridge and was impressed at the quality still. Love Cheltenham, it’s a really under rated city I think! Glad you had a nice break! šŸ™‚ x

It sounds like a really lovely little trip! The hotel looks perfect, everything you need in a hotel too. I must admit, I have been completely put off by Yo Sushi before as I don’t like sushi, but the chicken sounds delicious!

I love Cheltenham, we live about 20 minutes away so visit quite often. It’s such a nice town and has some great restaurants and bars. It’s so pretty as well. I will keep the hotel in mind though, as we’ve been talking about going for a night out there and would need somewhere to stay overnight!
