I am a Greater London girl through and through so an essential for where to live is close to a large city. While at the moment it’s London it might not always be that way. I am seeing more and more people move from Central in a bid for a better quality of life. There’s no denying that prices South, in general, are pretty high with the capital over the top. That’s why it’s good to look further afield. If you want to make a move here’s why you should consider living/ working in Manchester.
According to The Economists ‘Global Livability Index’ for 2018 Manchester is the top UK city. The worldwide table ranks 140 cities on things like education, access to healthcare, political and social stability and crime rates.
Manchester recorded the biggest improvements over the 12 months prior and saw it climb 13 places ahead of London. Mike Blackburn, chair of the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership, said that it highlights “The progress being made in achieving our ambition to be a top 20 global city by 2035.” Now, don’t you want in on that action before it’s too late?
As a small business owner or someone wanting to set up a business, choosing your location can be crucial. You want to be in the hub of things so you can get involved and not left out. But also in a space that is teeming with opportunities which is where Manchester comes in. It’s a huge buzzing city, but it’s not as overrun and crowded as say London. But if you do need to visit Central it’s just a few hours on a train away.
Whether you need accountants in Manchester to help guide your business. Or you need some marketing help you’ve got the support in the city.
A lot of money has been spent on regenerating Manchester since the millennium and it really shows. There’s such a great mix between the industrial past and the stylish modern views. You can still see the winding canals and viaducts but it doesn’t feel like an old city. While you may want to work in a big city for the opportunities if you want to live on the more rural side it’s not far to picture-postcard villages like Flixton and Disley.
It’s tough being stuck in the renting rut, once you’re in it’s hard to get out. While rent is high it can be tough to save but in Manchester, it’s not unrealistic. According to Zoopla, the average property price is just over £195,000. This might seem scary but compare to my home town of Watford which is almost £426,000. And Watford isn’t even classed as London by most! And you don’t even want to know about certain areas of London.
This is such a crazy difference considering it’s still a huge city with so much opportunity and things to do.
I’m not a football fan but even I know two of the countries biggest teams are in Manchester. So if you’re a football fan it’s a pretty great location to be. And there’s no denying that the Manchester music scene is great. Oasis, The 1975, The Stone Roses, Elbow, Joy Division, Happy Mondays, The Smiths and the list goes on.
I’ve been to a few gigs in Manchester and it’s always been such a great feeling, and the venues themselves are pretty great.

I love Manchester and if i had to pick a city to live in that would be the one 🙂
Do you know I have never been to Manchester, it is one of those places I have heard so much about and has so much going on but I’ve never made time to visit. I really should change that.
Manchester is one of my dream destination. How I wish I could go there someday!
We went to see the university there and really liked the town it had a very cosmopolitan feel.
I love Manchester and I really need to visit more often!
I agree about the property prices in Manchester. They’re much reasonable than what London has to offer.
I love Manchester, it really is a great place. If all my friends and family weren’t down south then I would more than happily move there
Im married to a Mancunian and everytime we go back there, so many changes! For me it is the home of football and the home of music x
I’m a Southerner so could never move out of London. Manchester looks great for a day trip though!
