AD- I was invited to the Debenhams Beauty event as part of an ongoing relationship with the Intu Watford.
I was not obligated to write a post up in exchange for attending, and all thoughts and opinions are my own
Last week I headed to a beauty event at the new Debenhams in Watford’s Intu Centre. I have loved the store ever since it opened last September as it’s quite unlike your traditional Debenhams. For one the beauty floor is right at the top of the store and not on the ground floor like it usually is. But the way it’s laid out is so unique with each brand separated out like an individual boutique. Lots of the brands offer treatments, trials and masterclasses on site so it’s great if you want to try things out.
During our event, we went around the different boutiques and spoke to the wonderful women working there. The ladies were all so knowledgeable about their brands, but also super passionate about makeup in general. I’d been around the store quite a few times but I got to try a selection of products alongside professionals. And I know have quite a few extra items to add to my wish list.
I am very much a one colour eyeshadow kinda girl. This whole blending and multiple colour stuff are far beyond my expertise. But the wonderful lady on the counter helped show us a super quick technique to help with blending out the colour. It involved a block of colour in the centre, packing in the colour. Then putting a lighter colour all over before blending.
She made it look so easy and for once it made me feel like maybe I could do it too. The mini Smashbox palettes have eight different shades which can also double up with highlighters for some looks. The ‘Cover Shot’ palette was the one which instantly drew my eye. It was full of nude and rose shades with plenty of shimmers which is what I love. The look which was created for me looked amazing and it’s such a great sized palette for travel.
We got our lips done at the Dior stand and initially, it was their liquid lipsticks which stood out to me. The colours were stunning and there were some pretty unusual shades available. I wouldn’t have pegged Dior as a brand that would have a black, but they did. To match with my eye look I chose a rose gold look and the lady on the stand put a lip maximizer over the top.
Initially, I wouldn’t have taken much notice of the lip maximizers as they’re gloss and usually I’m not a fan of them. But this one wasn’t tacky or sticky and it didn’t feel heavy on my lips like I’ve experienced before. The one I loved was called ‘Holo Pink’ which was a light pink sheen which added real dimension to my lipstick. There are some stunning colours which work well both over the top of colour or on their own.
While we were there I had an Elemis face consultation which is available free to anyone. While this was done images of my face were taken to look at dryness, pores, sun damage etc. And alongside chatting to the lady we were able to work out my skin type which did shock me. I’ve always considered myself to have dry or dehydrated skin. But it turns out I also have quite a lot of oil and my skin is considered more combination. It was great to see that my UV damage was quite low as I wear sunscreen on most days.
When the consultation was done I got a few samples to try out the one which stood out to me was the Elemis Superfood Facial Wash. Even though I’m not a huge avocado fan I loved the scent. And my skin felt properly clean afterwards. Plus knowing it’s all natural is a great bonus.
