The scary thing about writing this post is realizing that it’s almost June. When did that happen?! It’s almost the summertime, the kids have less than 6/7 weeks left at school. It’s crazy. But back to the point of this post, Fathers Day. I absolutely love spoiling my family and treating them to things when it’s a special occasion. But as we’re trying to save I am trying to be better with how I spend my money. Having searched around here are some of the best Father’s Day Gifts which won’t break the bank.
If your dad is anything like mine he loves a good tipple. Spode has a pack of 4 beautiful glasses* which have a stag design embossed on them (£35), great for any drink loving man.
The actual design is really well done and the glasses themselves are a great weight. Heavy enough to feel but not too weighty to be uncomfortable. The glasses themselves are made in the UK. And as they’re made by the Portmeirion Group they’re to a very high standard.
If your dad is more of a hot drink person then you can’t go wrong with the gift of a mug. But this isn’t just any mug it’s a Royal Worcester mug so it’s something a little bit special. The ‘What a Hoot Owl’* (£11.50) mug if fine bone china and is something a little bit special.
There are so many different designs with beautifully illustrated countryside animals. The owl one just stood out to me and I’m sure you can admit how cute it is! The mug feels really nice to hold, and as it’s bone china it’s not too chunky at the top so it feels really nice to drink from.
If you want to give your dad an experience as opposed to a physical item then grab a Red Letter Days Box like this Dining Delights box*. This particular box has a selection of over 250 restaurants that can be booked for a meal for 2 people. So this is the kind of gift which is really thoughtful but means he can choose exactly where to go and when himself.
The choices of restaurants are vast and there’s a huge range of dining options including Pub, Steakhouse, Italian, Asian, Indian and so much more. Every option is unique with the exact offerings, although most offer a 3-course meal. The only issue is choosing what to book once it’s been gifted.
Red Letter Days offer so many more options if a culinary box isn’t quite right so there are overnight breaks, spa trips, adrenaline junkie sports and so much more.
My dad absolutely loves to cook. And one of the most important things for a budding chef is good knives. We’ve previously bought my dad knives before and they’ve been a huge hit. So this three-set from Taylor’s Eye Witness is a great next addition.
The ‘Juno’ set* is a three-pack with a 16cm Santoku knife, a 12cm All-Purpose knife, and a 10cm Paring knife. So a great mixture for everyday use in the kitchen. They look absolutely stunning as they’re completely black but covered in anti-bacterial hard ceramic on the blades so they’re safe and pretty. One thing I love is how soft and easy to hold the handles are. And they glide easily through food so are a great kitchen addition.
Father’s Day gifts don’t have to be big or expensive, it’s a sign to show you care. If your dad loves DC Comics, or maybe just has a sweet tooth then these DC Super Hero Jelly Beans* may be the right gift.
The superhero mix has 5-6 different flavours giving you a good mixture in a really good sized packet. I know last time I gave my dad a box of Jelly Beans they didn’t last more than a day. This is the kind of size which would work really well in lunch boxes as a sweet treat after a long week.
Ever since getting an iPhone my dad has been obsessed with protecting it and getting the right case for it. Speck offers a whole range of great cases like the black and white grip case* (£29.95) which Luke has been obsessed with. The black parts are grips and what you hand hits when you hold your phone. Due to the material, they’ve been made from it’s really comfortable to hold, and also provides a really good grip to keep your phone in place. The colouring stands out so much, plus as your hand isn’t actually touching the white bit it shouldn’t get too dirty.
They’re really solid and claim to have 10 feet drop protection although I’m not willing to test that out. The GrabTabs* (£6.45) are very nifty products as well. I’m sure you’ve all seen the round phone rings or mounts that people can hold their phones with and stand them up. The GrabTabs are larger versions of these in a rectangular shape. It means you can properly fit a few fingers through them for comfort. And it does a great job of propping up your phone if you want to watch a video or just be hands-free.
I don’t know about you but home security is so important to me, and I know it is to my dad. We have never had cameras at home but this Neo’s Smartcam* (£19) could change that. The small camera can be put pretty much anywhere you want to keep an eye on. Maybe you want to keep an eye on your home when you’re on holiday. Or you just want to keep an eye on your pets when you’re out for the day.
This camera is only £19.99 which is a complete steal considering the quality of the images. You can get the footage from the camera to sync to a centralised app which will alert you if a potential intrusion might be taking place. When we first set this up it took a few minutes and we were good to go.
My dad’s always paranoid about our side gate so I’m sure this will be where he eventually settles on putting it.
Me and my family are huge fans of personalised sentimental gifts so this photo Memory Photo Block* (£32) is a great present. I chose to have the photo block personalised with a photo of my parents as I know they don’t have any recent ones. So it’s less a father-daughter present than a general present, but I know my dad will love it.
You can choose whatever photo you want to be preserved in the block. And you can upload this directly to the website. The quality of the image is amazing with print placed between two acrylic layers. It’s held in place with gold painted screws so it looks simple and classy. The wooden block can be personalised with anything you want to make it truly special. One thing I particularly love is the font used as it looks really great in the wood.
Some dads are just difficult to buy for. Maybe they have everything they need, maybe they don’t drink or have any particular hobbies. But every day needs socks don’t they?! The Critically Endangered Socks* (£12) are not only adorable but they also help protect some of the world’s most critically endangered animals through donating some of the proceeds.
The socks are so soft. And they’re really comfortable to wear as they’re made from a sustainable blend if bamboo and cotton. I have the blue and green socks with little turtles on them. But there are 5 designs which come in 2 sizes to choose from.
Not only a great present but you’re helping the environment.
You can’t have Father’s Day without a good card. For me, this is the most important part of Father’s Day as you can tell your dad how much you love him. In the image above I have the Taxi Driver* and Fixed cards* from Love Layla which I think are brilliant and under £4 each!
I’ve used Love Layla a few times for cards before. Luke even bought his mum a pretty rude one for Mother’s Day last year. She laughed solidly for about 10 minutes which was reward enough. The cards they do are light-hearted, they’re funny, and yes some of them are a little bit rude. Mushy, wordy cards might be right for some people but others just want a laugh.
The Taxi driver card is what I’m going to give to my dad. It will pay homage to my teenage years when he was both my driver and bank. The other card is what Luke is going to give to his dad as he’s the handiest person you’ll ever meet. So the words are very true!
