I talk about our move quite a lot, but it’s because I want to be as prepared as possible. I know there will be a lot of uncertainties when we come to view properties. And I won’t have much control in offers being accepted and the legalities etc. But the areas I can control and have some planning done I want to. When we moved we were picking about what furniture we kept. We didn’t want to spend more on storage for items we didn’t really want in our new home.
We have the essentials such as our bed and mattress, a huge sofa and a wardrobe so we’ll have the basics to start off. But I’ve started making a list of other items I know we’ll need when we move. Of course, until we know dimensions and sizes I can’t go buying things. But I can work out things we like and where you can get those items for a reasonable size.
We have a shoe unit, but we got rid of our old console table so we’ll need to get a new one. There are loads of types of wooden console tables and until I see the space I’m not 100% sure what colour we’d like to go for. I know Luke is a fan of darker wood but it depends on the area. I just want space where I can put my bag, space for our keys and mail to keep the area as tidy as possible.
For the living room, we’re going to want a coffee table. Due to the area in our old flat, we didn’t have space for one but I am so keen to get one for the middle of our L shape sofa. I’d love to have one which has a drawer/ some storage underneath to stop the top from getting cluttered. It would be space to put the remotes and have our drinks on.
One of the largest things we’ll need to get is a dining room table. We had something super cheap and basic in my flat which I got rid of. I don’t expect we’ll sit at the table all the time but I want something for entertaining. We hope to have an open kitchen/ diner so it means when one of us is cooking the other one can sit at the table to be social.
I had an explore about the made.com showroom a few weeks ago and spotted some really nice designs. The one I really liked was pretty simple but seemed solid. And didn’t seem like it would chip like the other ones I loved. I love the idea of having velvet high backed chairs to go around the table. But for 6 which we’d want this could be quite pricey as the ones I like are £169 a pair, but maybe it’s something we could get further down the line.
We’re going to need to invest in extra wardrobes as my old flat had a lot of built-in storage which we used a lot of. We’ll probably just buy more of the Ikea Pax wardrobes to match the one I have. I love how customisable they are so you can fit them out with exactly what you’ll need. I’d expect to have a double one each in our bedroom for our day to day things. And then probably another one in the spare bedroom for our evening clothes as these don’t need to be in our bedroom.
We’ll also want to get new bedside tables and a chest of drawers as while the ones we have are fine they’re going to go into our spare bedroom. This means our spare bedroom has furniture and we can get some nice new bits.
For our spare bedroom we only really need to get a bed frame as we have a double Leesa mattress which we are using at the moment. I want to get one with storage underneath because the more storage the better really. Everything else in here is likely to be what we already have.
For my office, it really depends on how big it is as to how much I’m going to be able to fit in here. I have my desk and just need to get a desk chair which will definitely be the Kiera grey and rose gold one from Made.com. I went to the showroom pretty much exclusively to try out this chair and make sure it felt comfortable.
In an ideal world, I’d love to have a single sofa bed in here so I can relax there, but then it’s extra sleeping space when we have guests. And some storage for my photography gear is also essential but this will depend on space.
One thing which I do already have sorted for my office is this velvet armchair beanbag* from Bean Bag Bazaar. I’m keen to have space for me to sit back an relax with a book in my office as it’s going to be my sanctuary of peace. This beanbag is so comfortable with a raised back and sides so you can sink into it, unlike normal rounded bean bags.
I was torn when choosing the colours but I went for the teal and I’m so glad I did as it is stunning. In the photo, the armchair looks more of a dark grey colour but in reality, it’s a vibrant green colour. This is one of the accent colours I’m hoping to have in my office so it should make a great fit. Being velvet it feels more luxurious than other smaller seats like this I’ve seen. But I did get a bit distracted when I sat down just stroking the chair *oops*.

I love that you added a console table to your list. For a long time we didn’t know what to include in our hallway but a console table is perfect
These are some great wish list items. I would love to have a dining room one day! It’s definitely something we are missing, then can be a really lovely area of the home.
I’m hoping for an open plan kitchen diner vibe so it’s very communal x
What a great wishlist! We have just moved into a house and have bought so much stuff for it!
such a good wishlist – all looks stunning! I’ve got a whole pinterest board dedicated to little things/design changes for the future. great ideas! x
What a lovely selection of beautiful furniture. I love all the items in your wish list.
Some fab furniture ideas for the future! I’d love a wooden console table when we move.
I love that sofa – we need a new one but not found one I really like until now
We’ve lived in our house for 6 years and are already planning our next house and what furniture we’ll keep or replace!
IKEA Pax Wardribes are amazing, so many different storage solutions available for that range
You’re so right, I actually can’t wait to get a few and kit them all out properly x
Such a great list and you are so right you can never have enough storage. We moved 2 years ago from a house with loads of built in storage to a house with none and have spent the time buying storage to deal with it all as you can’t keep everything on the floor! With the dinning chairs – the velvet looks great at first but….. 12 years later and 2 kids down the line I wish we had spent less and bought some that could be easily cleaned without ruining the velvet!
That’s a good point, perhaps it’s more practical to go for wood which may looking good for longer x
